Current concepts in isolated and combined injuries of the medial collateral ligament complex—Part I: Anatomy, biomechanics, clinical and radiological examination of the medial collateral ligament of the knee

open access: yesKnee Surgery, Sports Traumatology, Arthroscopy, EarlyView.
Abstract Injuries involving the medial collateral ligament (MCL), or combined injuries to both the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) and MCL, are common and present considerable diagnostic and therapeutic challenges. Better understanding of MCL anatomy and biomechanics, especially in combined ACL–MCL injuries, has driven the need for updated clinical ...

Dislocation glide in non-compact crystal planes

open access: yes, 2001
In the deformation of crystal and materials, dislocation glide takes place mainly in the contact planes characterised by the highest degree of occupation by the atoms.

Multi-scale modelling of III-nitrides: from dislocations to the electronic structure [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Gallium nitride and its alloys are direct band gap semiconductors with a wide variety of applications. Of particular importance are light emitting diodes and laser diodes. Due to the lack of suitable lattice-matched substrates, epitaxial layers contain a

Breaking Extrapolation Barriers: Dual Innovations for Property and Component Design of Multi‐Component Alloy

open access: yesMaterials Genome Engineering Advances, EarlyView.
This study breaks extrapolation barriers in alloy design by merging symbolic regression with latent space sampling. The dual‐strategy framework enables accurate prediction of high‐hardness properties and navigates uncharted compositional spaces. The approach successfully designs novel high‐entropy alloys with hardness exceeding 863.5 HV, demonstrating ...

Dislocation Behavior in TiVTa Multi-Principal Element Alloys: A Nanoindentation Simulation Study

open access: yesCrystals
Molecular dynamics simulations of nanoindentation were conducted to compare the dislocation behavior in a pure V and a TiVTa multi-principal element alloy (MPEA) with [100] and [111] crystal orientations.

Constitutive modeling of deformation behavior of high-entropy alloys with face-centered cubic crystal structure

open access: yesMaterials Research Letters, 2017
A constitutive model based on the dislocation glide and deformation twinning is adapted to face-centered cubic high-entropy alloys (HEAs) as exemplified by the CrMnFeCoNi system.

Creep Mechanism Mapping of Lamellar Ti–Al Alloys With Crystal‐Plasticity Phase‐Field and Interpretable Machine Learning Framework

open access: yesMaterials Genome Engineering Advances, EarlyView.
Crystal‐plasticity phase‐field simulations combined with stacked machine learning map the creep microstructure relationship in lamellar Ti‐Al alloys. Interpretable learning identifies lamellar thickness, elastic strain energy, and interfacial energy as dominant factors governing the diffusion‐to‐dislocation creep transition and overall creep resistance.

Sodium‐Based Battery Component Design: Imitating Lithium or Forging New Paths?

open access: yesSmall, EarlyView.
This Perspective elucidates the decisive yet underexplored impact of cation chemistry, Na+ vs. Li+ charge carriers, on the design, selection, and formulation of their corresponding battery systems, addressing common misconceptions and the pitfalls of overreliance on Li+ design principles. Leveraging the unique characteristics of Na+, it comprehensively

Recombination enhanced dislocation glide in silicon carbide observed in-situ by transmission electron microscopy

open access: yes, 1993
The recombination enhanced dislocation glide in a 6H-SiC single crystal was studied by in-situ transmission electron microscopy. Electron beam irradiation even at room temperature induced reversible increase in the glide velocity of basal 90°-partial ...
