Plastic anisotropy and dislocation trajectory in BCC metals
Low-temperature plasticity in BCC metals is atypical, marked by an anisotropic elastic limit in violation of the Schmid law. Here, the authors show that these deviations can be quantified from subatomic deviations of the screw dislocation trajectory away

The glide of a threading dislocation in a strained layer may be impeded as it encounters interface misfit dislocations on intersecting glide planes.

Imperfect Oriented Attachment of Gold Nanoparticles
The cover illustrates the imperfect oriented attachment of gold nanoparticles in liquid, as revealed by in situ liquid‐phase transmission electron microscopy. Triggered by the abrupt collapse of the interfacial hydration layer, two misoriented nanoparticles undergo a kinetically driven “jump‐to‐coalescence”.

Dislocation Nucleation on Grain Boundaries: Low Angle Twist and Asymmetric Tilt Boundaries
We investigate the mechanisms of incipient plasticity at low angle twist and asymmetric tilt boundaries in fcc metals. To observe plasticity of grain boundaries independently of the bulk plasticity, we simulate nanoindentation of bicrystals.

Non-glide effects and dislocation core fields in BCC metals
International audienceA hallmark of low-temperature plasticity in body-centered cubic (BCC) metals is its departure from Schmid’s law. One aspect is that non-glide stresses, which do not produce any driving force on the dislocations, may affect the yield

The glide force on a dislocation in finite elasticity
The calculation of the glide force on a dislocation in finite elasticity requires a suitable description of the variation of the deformation due to dislocation motion.

Dynamics of creep rate change of dislocations density and point defects in the materials under irradiation with account of generation of vacancies by gliding dislocations [PDF]
In the frame of glide dislocation model limited by their climb the changes in the concentration of point defects and dislocations in materials under irradiation is studied. We have noted, when the dislocation slip vacancies are generated.

Mechanics reshapes chemistry: plastic flow actively governs two divergent, atomic‐scale mechanochemical pathways that tailor strain localization and ductility in high‐strength 7xxx Al alloys. Rather than relying on static structures, deformation dynamically reinforces the solution‐treated state via clustering, yet destabilizes the peak‐aged condition ...

FEATURES OF DISLOCATION DYNAMICS IN NEAR-SURFACE NANOREGION OF CRYSTAL
The glide of dislocations in a near-surface nanolayer of crystal containing point defects is theoretically analyzed. An analytical expression for the dynamic drag force of dislocations by point defects is obtained.
