Thermomechanical Fatigue and Creep–Fatigue Interaction of Inconel 718 Additively Manufactured by Laser Beam Powder Bed Fusion

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Thermomechanical fatigue tests of laser beam powder bed fusion (PBF‐LB) Inconel 718 show that the additively manufactured material reaches almost the lifetimes of conventionally‐rolled material under no‐dwell conditions. Introducing dwell times at the maximum temperature markedly reduces the lifetimes due to pronounced grain boundary sliding associated

DISLOCATION DIPOLES AND DISLOCATION LOOPS

open access: yesLe Journal de Physique Colloques, 1966
Basic theoretical ideas on the properties of two special dislocation configurations, dislocation dipoles and prismatic dislocation loops, are presented. Some of the author's recent results, based mostly on the application of the model of elastic continuum on these crystalline defects, are also given.

Low‐Angle Grain Boundaries and Re‐Segregation in Single‐Crystalline Ni‐Base Superalloys

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This work demonstrates that Re‐segregation at low‐angle grain boundaries (LAGBs) in Ni‐base superalloys is influenced by misorientation angle. Advanced microscopy and atom probe tomography reveal that higher misorientation angles increases Re‐segregation.

Nano-scale dislocations induced by self-vacancy engineering yielding extraordinary n-type thermoelectric Pb0.96-yInySe

open access: yes, 2018
Nanostructuring has successfully enhanced thermoelectric performance for wide solid-state materials via embedding nano-scale particles, precipitates, or dislocations into the matrix to significantly lower the thermal conductivity.

Productivity‐Driven Optimization of Laser Powder Bed Fusion Parameters for IN718 Superalloy: Process Control, Microstructure, and Mechanical Properties

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study demonstrates how optimizing laser power, scanning speed, and hatching distance in laser powder bed fusion can boost the productivity of Inconel 718 manufacturing by up to 29% while maintaining mechanical integrity. The work delivers a validated process window and cost–time analysis, offering industry‐ready guidelines for efficient additive ...

Relaxation in epitaxial layers of III-V compounds [PDF]

open access: yes, 1992
Semiconductor devices can be fabricated by growing III-V heteroepitaxial layers which are coherently strained to a III-V substrate. The relaxation of layer lattice strain through the nucleation of misfit dislocations near the interface causes a drop in ...

Towards Defect Phase Diagrams: From Research Data Management to Automated Workflows

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A research data management infrastructure is presented for the systematic integration of heterogeneous experimental and simulation data required for defect phase diagrams. The approach combines openBIS with a companion application for large‐object storage, automated metadata extraction, provenance tracking and federated data access, thereby supporting ...

Solid‐State Diffusion and Intermetallic Phase Formation in Roll‐Bonded Mg–Zn Composites With Kirigami‐Patterned Inlay

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Mg–Zn composites with a thickness of 0.21 mm were fabricated using roll bonding of a kirigami‐patterned Mg alloy inlay within a Zn matrix. Thermal activation following this process led to the formation of tailored intermetallic structures, which provided the composite with enhanced flexural strength.

Study of {332}<113> twinning in a multilayered Ti-10Mo-xFe (x = 1–3) alloy by ECCI and EBSD

open access: yesScience and Technology of Advanced Materials, 2016
We have investigated the propagation of {332} twins in a multilayered Ti-10Mo-xFe (x = 1–3) alloy fabricated by multi-pass hot rolling. The material contains a macroscopic Fe-graded structure (about 130 μm width) between 1 and 3 wt% Fe in the direction ...

Alignment of threading dislocations in the In0.3Ga0.7As/GaAs superlattice

open access: yes, 1998
Threading dislocations in the III-V heterostructure system are investigated based on the observation of dislocations in the In0.3Ga0.7As/GaAs superlattice with transmission electron microscope.
