A dislocation, just like a phonon, is a type of atomic lattice displacement but subject to an extra topological constraint. However, unlike the phonon which has been quantized for decades, the dislocation has long remained classical. This article is a comprehensive review of the recent progress on quantized dislocations, aka the "dislon" theory.

When professors Weber and Marres asked me to contribute to the Liber Amicorum of professor Wattel I of course was very happy and willing to prepare a contribution. There are a number of scholars whose academic work have been a source of inspiration for me and truly contributed to the development of my thinking, during the formative phase of my ...

The present article evaluates, in qualitative and quantitative manners, the characteristics (i.e., thickness of layers, crystal structures, growth orientation, elemental diffusion depths, edge, and screw dislocation densities), within two GaN/AlN/Si ...

Dislocations in nanowire heterostructures: from discrete to continuum [PDF]
We discuss an atomistic model for heterogeneous nanowires, allowing for dislocations at the interface. We study the limit as the atomic distance converges to zero, considering simultaneously a dimension reduction and the passage from discrete to ...

In some plants, developmental changes of phyllotaxis are so frequent that the whole spectrum of phyllotactic patterns becomes available for investigation and thus many unknown subtleties of phyllotaxis come to light.

Subtalar dislocations are uncommon injuries that involve disruption of the talocalcaneal and talonavicular joints. Whereas medial subtalar dislocations are usually caused by low-energy mechanisms and are reducible by closed means, lateral subtalar dislocations occur due to high-energy trauma, have associated foot injuries, and may require open ...

Discrete dislocation simulations and size dependent hardening in single slip [PDF]
Plastic deformation in two-dimensional monophase and composite materials is studied using a discrete dislocation dynamics method. In this method, dislocations are represented by line defects in a linear elastic medium, and their interactions with ...

Residual stress relief mechanisms of 2219 Al–Cu alloy by thermal stress relief method
Monolithic thin-wall components of 2219 Al–Cu alloy are widely used in aerospace and military fields, and usually treated with solution and quenching to improve their comprehensive performance. However, a high magnitude residual stress is introduced into

Management of Elbow Dislocations in the National Football League. [PDF]
Background: Although much literature exists regarding the treatment and management of elbow dislocations in the general population, little information is available regarding management in the athletic population.

Continuous diamond films with low dislocation density were obtained by two-step epitaxial lateral overgrowth (ELO). Grooves were fabricated by inductively coupled plasma etching. Mo/Pd stripes sputtered in the grooves were used to inhibit the propagation
