Quantized dislocations [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Physics: Condensed Matter, 2019
A dislocation, just like a phonon, is a type of atomic lattice displacement but subject to an extra topological constraint. However, unlike the phonon which has been quantized for decades, the dislocation has long remained classical. This article is a comprehensive review of the recent progress on quantized dislocations, aka the "dislon" theory.

Screw dislocation in zirconium: An ab initio study [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Plasticity in zirconium is controlled by 1/3 screw dislocations gliding in the prism planes of the hexagonal close-packed structure. This prismatic and not basal glide is observed for a given set of transition metals like zirconium and is known to be ...

Explanation of the discrepancy between the measured and atomistically calculated yield stresses in body-centered cubic metals [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
We propose a mesoscopic model that explains the factor of two to three discrepancy between experimentally measured yield stresses of BCC metals at low temperatures and typical Peierls stresses determined by atomistic simulations of isolated screw ...

Dislocations in nanowire heterostructures: from discrete to continuum [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
We discuss an atomistic model for heterogeneous nanowires, allowing for dislocations at the interface. We study the limit as the atomic distance converges to zero, considering simultaneously a dimension reduction and the passage from discrete to ...

On the non-uniform motion of dislocations: The retarded elastic fields, the retarded dislocation tensor potentials and the Li\'enard-Wiechert tensor potentials

open access: yes, 2012
The purpose of this paper is the fundamental theory of the non-uniform motion of dislocations in two and three space-dimensions. We investigate the non-uniform motion of an arbitrary distribution of dislocations, a dislocation loop and straight ...

Molecular-dynamics simulations of stacking-fault-induced dislocation annihilation in pre-strained ultrathin single-crystalline copper films [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
We report results of large-scale molecular-dynamics (MD) simulations of dynamic deformation under biaxial tensile strain of pre-strained single-crystalline nanometer-scale-thick face-centered cubic (fcc) copper films.

Impact of Screw and Edge Dislocation on the Thermal Conductivity of Nanowires and Bulk GaN

open access: yes, 2017
We report on thermal transport properties of wurtzite GaN in the presence of dislocations, by using molecular dynamics simulations. A variety of isolated dislocations in a nanowire configuration were analyzed and found to reduce considerably the thermal ...

Topological Gauge Theory Of General Weitzenbock Manifolds Of Dislocations In Crystals

open access: yes, 1999
General Weitzenbock material manifolds of dislocations in crystals Are proposed, the reference, idealized and deformation states of the bodies in general case are generally described by the general manifolds, the topological gauge field theory of ...

Toward defect-free semi-polar GaN templates on pre-structured sapphire [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
The microstructure of semi-polar (11–22) GaN templates grown on pre-structured r-plane sapphire by MOVPE has been characterized by TEM. Cross-sectional observations indicate that defects are generated in three regions of the layers: threading ...

STAT3 expression is reduced in cardiac pericytes in HFpEF and its loss reduces cellular adhesion and induces pericyte senescence

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF) accounts for half of the heart failure cases. It is characterised by microvascular dysfunction, associated with reduced pericyte coverage and diminished STAT3 expression in pericytes. Loss of STAT3 impairs pericyte adhesion, promotes senescence, and activates a pro‐fibrotic gene program.
