LINC01116, a hypoxia‐lncRNA marker of pathological lymphangiogenesis and poor prognosis in lung adenocarcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The LINC01116 long noncoding RNA is induced by hypoxia and associated with poor prognosis and high recurrence rates in two cohorts of lung adenocarcinoma patients. Here, we demonstrate that besides its expression in cancer cells, LINC01116 is markedly expressed in lymphatic endothelial cells of the tumor stroma in which it participates in hypoxia ...

The 3D Stress Field of a Dislocation Line Outside a Cylindrical Void: A Numerical Collocation Point Method with Verification

open access: yesApplied Sciences
Material defects resulting from manufacturing and processing can significantly affect material properties. Voids and dislocations are material defects considered in this study, in which a numerical solution of the 3D stress field of a dislocation line ...

Statistical aspects of microplasticity: experiments, discrete dislocation simulations and stochastic continuum models

open access: yesJournal of the Mechanical Behavior of Materials, 2013
The plastic deformation properties of microscale and nanoscale specimens differ from those of their macroscopic counterparts as the discrete nature of the elementary processes governing plastic flow becomes directly visible. In such specimens, details of

Absence of Two-Dimensional Bragg Glasses

open access: yes, 1998
The stability to dislocations of the elastic phase, or ``Bragg glass'', of a randomly pinned elastic medium in two dimensions is studied using the minimum-cost-flow algorithm for a disordered fully-packed loop model.

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...

Projective non-Abelian Statistics of Dislocation Defects in a Z_N Rotor Model

open access: yes, 2012
Non-Abelian statistics is a phenomenon of topologically protected non-Abelian Berry phases as we exchange quasiparticle excitations. In this paper, we construct a Z_N rotor model that realizes a self-dual Z_N Abelian gauge theory.

Identification of serum protein biomarkers for pre‐cancerous lesions associated with pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This work identified serum proteins associated with pancreatic epithelial neoplasms (PanINs) and early‐stage PDAC. Proteomics screens assessed genetically engineered mice with abundant PanINs, KPC mice (Lox‐STOP‐Lox‐KrasG12D/+ Lox‐STOP‐Lox‐Trp53R172H/+ Pdx1‐Cre) before PDAC development and also early‐stage PDAC patients (n = 31), compared to benign ...

On the Evidence of Thermodynamic Self-Organization during Fatigue: A Review

open access: yesEntropy, 2020
In this review paper, the evidence and application of thermodynamic self-organization are reviewed for metals typically with single crystals subjected to cyclic loading. The theory of self-organization in thermodynamic processes far from equilibrium is a

Some Limitations of Dislocation Walls as Models for Plastic Boundary Layers

open access: yes, 2011
It has recently become popular to analyze the behavior of excess dislocations in plastic deformation under the assumption that such dislocations are arranged into walls with periodic dislocation spacing along the wall direction.

Keratin 19 as a prognostic marker and contributing factor of metastasis and chemoresistance in high‐grade serous ovarian cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Keratin 19 (KRT19) is overexpressed in high‐grade serous ovarian cancer with high levels of Kallikrein‐related peptidases (KLK) 4–7 and is associated with poor survival. In vivo analyses demonstrate that elevated KRT19 increases peritoneal tumour burden.
