Joint Risk Factor Combinations with Additive Interaction Increase the Risk of Parkinson's Disease

open access: yesMovement Disorders, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Combined effects of multiple risk factors on incident late‐onset Parkinson's disease (PD; LOPD) remain poorly characterized. Objective The objective of this study was to quantify the impact of joint risk exposures and estimate the contribution of potentially modifiable factors to incident LOPD risk.

Update on the Pathophysiology, Aetiology and Management of Central Sleep Apnoea

open access: yesRespirology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Central sleep apnoea (CSA) of the periodic breathing type occurs during the transition between wakefulness and stage 1 and 2 non‐REM sleep. In adults at sea level, it occurs most commonly due to advanced heart failure (HF) or chronic opioid use and in ~5% of obstructive sleep apnoea patients initiating CPAP.

Predictability of obstructive sleep apnea with a somesthetic screening score: Development and preliminary validation in a prospective study

open access: yesSleep Research, EarlyView.
This prospective study developed a two‐step clinical scoring system for obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) screening based on patients’ somesthetic perception of oropharyngeal airflow. The Intermediate Score (IS ≥ 7.5) achieved 73% sensitivity and 77% specificity (AUC = 0.7754; OR = 8.96).

Development and Validation of a Screening Equation for Obstructive Sleep Apnea

open access: yesDiagnostics
Background: The high prevalence of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), about 30% of people worldwide over 30 years old, underscores the crucial need for early screening. This study aimed to identify key predictive factors for OSA; use these factors to develop

Artificial intelligence in out‐of‐hospital sleep monitoring: Bridging polysomnography and wearable signals

open access: yesSleep Research, EarlyView.
Abstract Polysomnography (PSG), the reference standard for sleep assessment, has limited scalability for large‐scale screening, driving the development of wearable and unobtrusive monitors. However, the physiological signals these devices capture are physiologically correlated with PSG channels but are not completely equivalent.

Impact of sleep insufficiency and recovery on cancer development

open access: yesSleep Research, EarlyView.
Abstract Sleep plays a critical role in overall health, and modern lifestyles, such as shift work and late‐night activities, can significantly impact sleep condition. Insufficient sleep has been associated with various adverse health outcomes, including an increased risk of tumor development.

Beyond sleep‐specific bias: Eye‐tracking observations of general negative attentional biases linked to insomnia

open access: yesSleep Research, EarlyView.
Abstract Although attentional bias toward sleep‐related stimuli is well documented in insomnia and is regarded as a cognitive outcome arising after the disorder's onset, it remains unclear whether insomnia also involves a general negative attentional bias toward nonsleep negative stimuli, a transdiagnostic vulnerability for psychiatric disorders ...
