Disparity map quality for image-based rendering based on multiple metrics

open access: yes, 2014
© 2014 IEEE. While a wide range of disparity estimation algorithms exists, only few methods are available to analyze the quality of a disparity map. We present a new two-dimensional approach to disparity map evaluation using the stereo matching error and

Fast plane detection in disparity maps

2010 IEEE International Conference on Image Processing, 2010
We propose a new method for fast detection of planar patches in disparity maps. We first use a region growing algorithm on random seeds. This approach is similar to the one introduced in [1] for fast line segment detection in images. Then, the parameter-free criterion introduced in [2] is used to keep only the patches that are planar.

Statistical analyses of disparity maps and disparity compensated residuals in the presence of occlusions

Proceedings 2001 International Conference on Image Processing (Cat. No.01CH37205), 2002
The doubling of the data rate in stereo image systems causes problems for archiving and transmission, and compression is obviously desirable. In general, stereo codecs code one of the views as the reference using a conventional method like MPEG-2 assuming two basic sources, and the disparity map is calculated to aid the coding process.

Health Disparities in Veterans

Medical Care, 2017
Background: Goals for improving the quality of care for all Veterans and eliminating health disparities are outlined in the Veterans Health Administration Blueprint for Excellence, but the degree to which disparities in utilization, health outcomes, and quality of care affect Veterans is not well understood.

Disparity map based watermarking for 3D-images

2015 38th International Conference on Telecommunications and Signal Processing (TSP), 2015
This paper proposes a watermarking system that is capable of surviving the reconstruction phase of disparity-based image rendering. When the hole (missed pixel) detection and disparity maps are combined, an intermediary matrix is created. This matrix in turn is used to generate a decision matrix.

Angular Disparity Map: A Scalable Perceptual-Based Representation of Binocular Disparity

2013 Data Compression Conference, 2013
This work addresses the data representation and the compression issues of angular disparity map following the way of HVS to perceive depth information. The continued fraction is utilized to represent the angular disparity map which enables the use of the state-of-the-art video codec (e.g.

Object Mapping from Disparity Map by Fast Clustering

2020 IEEE Calcutta Conference (CALCON), 2020
3D object bounding box detection is one of the most important aspects of robot vision for autonomous navigation. In this work, we propose a stereo vision based methodology for the purpose. The work relies on disparity map. First of all, pixels with the same disparity in the continuous space form the components.

A 3D mosaic algorithm using disparity map

SPIE Proceedings, 2015
Conventionally there exist two major methods to create mosaics in 3D videos. One is to duplicate the area of mosaics from the image of one viewpoint (the left view or the right view) to that of the other viewpoint. This method, which is not capable of expressing depth, cannot give viewers a natural perception in 3D.

Real-time disparity map computation module

Microprocessors and Microsystems, 2008
Stereo vision deals with images acquired by a stereo camera setup, where the disparity between the stereo images allows depth estimation within a scene. 3D information, hence, is retrieved which is essential in many machine vision applications. Disparity map extraction of an image is a computationally demanding task.

Lossless Compression of Stereo Disparity Maps for 3D

2012 IEEE International Conference on Multimedia and Expo Workshops, 2012
Efficient compression of disparity data is important for accurate view synthesis purposes in multi-view communication systems based on the "texture plus depth" format, including the stereo case. In this paper a novel technique for loss less compression of stereo disparity images is presented. The coding algorithm is based on bit-plane coding, disparity
