Spray Extraction Columns: Drop Size and Dispersed-Phase Holdup
Theoretical Foundations of Chemical Engineering, 2000Mean drop size and dispersed-phase holdup data are generalized for spray extraction columns with loose, close, and turbulized close drop packings. A graphical method is suggested for determining the conjugate holdup values.

DISPERSED PHASE HOLDUP IN PULSED PERFORATED PLATE COLUMNS
Solvent Extraction and Ion Exchange, 1990ABSTRACT Data on dispersed phase holdup are presented for a range of aqueous-organic systems, and are used to assess the accurancy of existing methods for its prediction. The Griffith model (2) for the mixer-settler region and the Thornton correlation (3) for the dispersion region were found to be the most accurate for high interfaclal tension systems;

Prediction of dispersed phase holdup in a modified multi‐stage bubble column scrubber
The Canadian Journal of Chemical Engineering, 2002AbstractThis paper reports on the experimental investigation carried out to evaluate fractional dispersed phase holdup for a gas‐liquid mixture in a modified multi‐stage bubble column (with contraction and expansion disks), which has been conceived, designed and fabricated as a wet scrubber for control of air pollution; in addition it has versatile use

Axial Dispersion and Phase Holdup Characteristics in Reciprocating Plate Extraction Columns
Separation Science and Technology, 1990Abstract Axial dispersion and phase holdup characteristics have been determined in a 0.102-m i.d. × 3.5 m high QVF glass column. The axial dispersion coefficient decreases with increasing reciprocating frequency (f) and amplitude (A) in the inhomogeneous dispersed phase flow regime, whereas it increases in the emulsion flow regime. The axial dispersion

Dispersed-phase holdup and mass transfer in a rotating disc contactor with perforated skirts
Journal of Chemical Technology & Biotechnology, 2007AbstractDispersed‐phase holdup and extraction efficiency were measured in a pilot‐plant scale rotating disc contactor (RDC) with perforated skirts (RDCS) with kerosene‐o‐cresol‐water system. The data for the RDCS were examined using the data in this work and the available correlations proposed for the plain RDC.

Dispersed‐phase holdup in packed, countercurrent liquid‐liquid extraction columns
AIChE Journal, 1955AbstractThis investigation is a study of the effect of flow rates and packing size and column diameter upon the holdup of a toluene dispersed phase, flowing countercurrent to a continuous water phase in packed liquid‐liquid extraction columns. Six different packings were used: ¼‐, ⅜‐, ½‐, ⅝‐, ¾‐, and 1‐in.

Dispersion and holdup in a three-phase fluidized-bed bioreactor
Applied Biochemistry and Biotechnology, 1989Axial dispersion and phase holdup measurements were made using electroconductivity in a fermenting fluidized-bed bioreactor (FBR) and in a model nonfermenting three-phase FBR. Multiple axial conductivity probes were used to nonintrusively monitor the bed conductivity.

Gas holdup and solids dispersion in a three‐phase slurry bubble column
AIChE Journal, 1990Studies with three-phase systems in bubble columns have shown that the effect of solids on gas holdup depends on a variety of factors. Important among these are: liquid properties and particle properties such as density, size and concentration in the slurry, and wettability.
