Lateral variation of Rayleigh wave dispersion character
Group velocities of Rayleigh waves were measured along various paths, nearly 200 in all, covering the continents of Eurasia and Africa and the Atlantic and Indian Oceans, using long period seismograms of the World-Wide Standardized Seismograph Network; Dispersion characters thus obtained were compared with standard dispersion curves.

Ranking Characters by a Dispersion Criterion
IT is often proposed by taxonomists and ecologists that classifications and other related analyses should be based on the possible largest number of characters. They believe that when large character sets are used the analysis will gain in accuracy, and the results will be more broadly applicable. Yet sampling, computational and other logistic problems

Study on Dispersion Character of Fine Oolitic Hematite Ore Particle
The fine oolitic hematite ore (<20μm) is easily covered by the ore slime, therefore, it is processed very difficultly with traditional crafts, for example, gravity treatment, magnetic separation, and flotation. The tiny iron ore is unable to recycle effectively, bring about a large of useful minerals running off.

In continuation of Part II, investigations of the lateral variation of group velocity dispersion character of Rayleigh waves were carried out for the Atlantic and Indian Oceans and for Africa. Maximum group velocity at such short periods as 25 to 30 seconds is observed in the Mid-Atlantic Ridge, in agreement with earlier observations from the East ...

The character of the dispersion of the refractive index near an isolated spectral line
An approximate analog of the Kramers-Kronig relationships for an isolated spectral line is proposed. Expressions are obtained for the real part of the dielectric susceptibility of a substance near a spectral line for collisional, Doppler, and time-of-flight spreading of the spectral line.

Qualitative change of character of dispersive interaction with intermolecular distance
The Journal of Chemical Physics, 2013The dispersive interaction between molecules results from Coulomb-correlated fluctuations of electrons and for large intermolecular distances it can be related to the molecular polarizabilities as in London's theory (F. London, Trans. Faraday Soc. 33, 8–26 (1937)10.1039/tf937330008b).

Diffraction character of holographic polymer-dispersed liquid crystal
SPIE Proceedings, 2002Holographic polymer dispersed liquid crystal (HPDLC) is a kind of novel photoelectronic information materials. The diffraction efficiency (DE) can be modulated by the application of electric field. HPDLC devices are potentially useful for optical communication, panel dipslay, information storage and integrated optics.

Band dispersion and bonding character of potassium on graphite
Surface Science, 2008Abstract The band dispersion of potassium on highly oriented pyrolytic graphite (HOPG) has been studied by angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES). The ARPES around the K point shows shifts of the π and π ∗ bands toward higher binding energies upon K adsorption in the submonolayer regime, showing charge transfer from the adsorbed potassium

Guiding modes of semi-infinite nanowire and their dispersion character
Journal of Optics, 2014Conventionally, the optical properties of finite semiconductor nanowires have been understood and explained in terms of an infinite nanowire. This work describes completely different photonic modes for a semi-finite nanowire based on a rigorous theoretical method, and the implications for the finite one.
