Exciton-polaritons in transition-metal dichalcogenides and their direct excitation via energy transfer

open access: yes, 2015
Excitons, composite electron-hole quasiparticles, are known to play an important role in optoelectronic phenomena in many semiconducting materials.

Cholesteric Liquid Crystal Materials for Tunable Diffractive Optics

open access: yesAdvanced Optical Materials, 2018
Modern optics and photonics constantly require break‐through materials and designs in order to achieve miniature, lightweight, highly tunable, and effective optical devices. One of the basic optical components is the diffraction grating (DG), widely used

Transcriptional network analysis of PTEN‐protein‐deficient prostate tumors reveals robust stromal reprogramming and signs of senescent paracrine communication

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Combining PTEN protein assessment and transcriptomic profiling of prostate tumors, we uncovered a network enriched in senescence and extracellular matrix (ECM) programs associated with PTEN loss and conserved in a mouse model. We show that PTEN‐deficient cells trigger paracrine remodeling of the surrounding stroma and this information could help ...

Stabilization of three--dimensional light bullets by a transverse lattice in a Kerr medium with dispersion management

open access: yes, 2005
We demonstrate a possibility to stabilize three-dimensional spatiotemporal solitons ("light bullets") in self--focusing Kerr media by means of a combination of dispersion management in the longitudinal direction (with the group-velocity dispersion ...

LDAcoop: Integrating non‐linear population dynamics into the analysis of clonogenic growth in vitro

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Limiting dilution assays (LDAs) quantify clonogenic growth by seeding serial dilutions of cells and scoring wells for colony formation. The fraction of negative wells is plotted against cells seeded and analyzed using the non‐linear modeling of LDAcoop.

Experimental Verification of Degenerate Band Edge Dispersion in Silicon Photonic Integrated Circuits

open access: yesIEEE Photonics Journal, 2016
On resonance, periodic dielectric media of finite length exhibit large and distributed internal electric field distributions. The large and distributed fields have been exploited for applications in light emission, optical switching, and nonlinear optics.

Infrared laser sampling of low volumes combined with shotgun lipidomics reveals lipid markers in palatine tonsil carcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Nanosecond infrared laser (NIRL) low‐volume sampling combined with shotgun lipidomics uncovers distinct lipidome alterations in oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma (OPSCC) of the palatine tonsil. Several lipid species consistently differentiate tumor from healthy tissue, highlighting their potential as diagnostic markers.

A Soft X-ray Polarimeter Designed for Broad-band X-ray Telescopes

open access: yes, 2007
A novel approach for measuring linear X-ray polarization over a broad-band using conventional imaging optics and cameras is described. A new type of high efficiency grating, called the critical angle transmission grating is used to disperse soft X-rays ...

Dark soliton molecules in nonlinear optics

open access: yes, 2020
The study on soliton molecules is one of the important topics in nonlinear science especially in nonlinear optics. The bright soliton molecules have been experimentally observed in optics, however, the dark soliton molecules have not yet been ...

HSP70 governs permeability and mechanotransduction in primary human endothelial cells

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
HSP70 chemical inhibition reduces endothelial cell proliferation and increases permeability, the latter supported by normal interendothelial junctional protein distribution. HSP70 also plays a role in shear stress response, a hemodynamic force naturally present in blood vessels and correlated with vessel protection.
