How the 29 July 2025 M8.8 Kamchatka Earthquake Shook the Ionosphere Over Japan
Abstract This study investigates the mid‐field (∼1,100–3,800 km) ionospheric response to the 29 July 2025 Kamchatka earthquake over Japan using multi‐instrument observations, raytracing, and numerical simulations. Total electron content (TEC) observations from GPS satellite G04 and Galileo satellite E10 show a maximum TEC perturbation of ∼0.5–0.85 TECU

Experimental observation of dissipative soliton resonance in an anomalous-dispersion fiber laser
We have experimentally observed conventional solitons and rectangular pulses in an erbium-doped fiber laser operating at anomalous dispersion regime. The rectangular pulses exhibit broad quasi-Gaussian spectra (~40 nm) and triangular autocorrelation traces.

Two-peak soliton in the CKP hierarchy [PDF]
We present a systematic approach to the construction of soliton solutions for the 5-reduction of the C-type sub-hierarchy for the Kadomtsev–Petviashvili (CKP) hierarchies starting from the general τ-function τ(n+k) of the Kadomtsev–Petviashvili (KP ...

Inertial Alfvén Waves With Magnetosphere‐Ionosphere Coupling and Feedback
Abstract We present a theory of the ionospheric feedback instability (IFI) in which the finite‐thickness h $h$ of the ionosphere is represented by a frequency‐ and scale‐dependent height‐integrated Pedersen conductance, YI≡∑inΩ,k⊥,h, ${Y}_{\mathrm{I}}\equiv {\mathrm{\sum }}_{\text{in}}\left({\Omega },{k}_{\perp },h\right),$ electromagnetically coupled ...

Study of Free‐Space Optical Quantum Network: Review and Prospectives
Free from the constraints of fiber connections, free‐space quantum network enables longer and more flexible quantum network connections. This review summarizes and comparatively analyzes free‐space quantum network experiments based on ground stations, satellites, and mobile platforms.

The Proton‐Alpha Instability as a Source of Ion Heating at Earth's Bow Shock
Abstract Electrostatic waves are frequently observed at collisionless shocks and are believed to play a key role in energy dissipation. Recent spacecraft observations have identified a proton‐alpha instability in the Earth's bow shock as a potential mechanism to dissipate the energy associated with a relative drift between protons and alpha particles ...

This perspective surveys emerging quantum and classical photonic applications across operating wavelengths and timescales, highlighting persistent technological gaps in integrated light sources. We examine the unique advantages of quadratic nonlinear photonics on the thin‐film lithium niobate (TFLN) platform and discuss strategies for realizing ...

Active Metamaterials with Tunable Shear Nonreciprocity and Nonlinear Dynamics
Active gear‐based mechanical metamaterials enable simultaneous control of translational and torsional stiffnesses by 30–100×, break shear reciprocity under positive versus negative loads, broadly tune resonant frequencies, and offer programmable dynamic responses.

Dissipative soliton resonance in an all-normaldispersion erbium-doped fiber laser
We report on the generation of 281.2 nJ mode locked pulses directly from an erbium-doped fiber laser mode-locked with the nonlinear polarization rotation technique. We show that apart from the conventional dissipative soliton operation, an all-normal-dispersion fiber laser can also emit square-profile dissipative solitons whose energy could increase to

Chirped dissipative soliton absorption spectroscopy [PDF]
We present analytical theory of dissipative soliton absorption spectroscopy. A dissipative soliton formed in an all-normal-dispersion oscillator with a narrowband intracavity absorber acquires spectral features that follow the index of refraction of the ...
