Measuring the Distance of Generalized Maps [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Generalized maps are widely used to model the topology of nD objects (such as images) by means of incidence and adjacency relationships between cells (vertices, edges, faces, volumes, ...). In this paper, we define a first error-tolerant distance measure for comparing generalized maps, which is an important issue for image processing and analysis. This

Residual tail twisting in ascidian larvae is stabilized by asymmetric myofibrils that resist bilateral symmetry restoration

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ascidian Ciona larvae initially show strong clockwise tail twisting, which is largely corrected during development. However, a small residual twist remains. This study shows that organized helical myofibrils in tail muscles mechanically stabilize this residual asymmetry, preventing complete restoration of bilateral symmetry and revealing how embryos ...

Local and global statistical distances are equivalent on pure states

open access: yes, 2009
The statistical distance between pure quantum states is obtained by finding a measurement that is optimal in a sense defined by Wootters. As such, one may expect that the statistical distance will turn out to be different if the set of possible ...

PARP inhibition and pharmacological ascorbate demonstrate synergy in castration‐resistant prostate cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Pharmacologic ascorbate (vitamin C) increases ROS, disrupts cellular metabolism, and induces DNA damage in CRPC cells. These effects sensitize tumors to PARP inhibition, producing synergistic growth suppression with olaparib in vitro and significantly delayed tumor progression in vivo. Pyruvate rescue confirms ROS‐dependent activity.

Velocity Signal Measurement Based on FPGA

open access: yes机车电传动, 2016
In order to reduce CPU resource occupancy rate and the software complexity for velocity measuring, a FPGA(Field Programmable Gate Array) technology to measure velocity and related information was adopted as a supplement of CPU.

Distances and Cosmology From Galaxy Cluster CMB Data

open access: yes, 2003
The measurement of angular diameter distance to galaxy clusters, through combined Sunyaev-Zel'dovich (SZ) effect data with X-ray emission observations, is now a well-known probe of cosmology.

Infrared laser sampling of low volumes combined with shotgun lipidomics reveals lipid markers in palatine tonsil carcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Nanosecond infrared laser (NIRL) low‐volume sampling combined with shotgun lipidomics uncovers distinct lipidome alterations in oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma (OPSCC) of the palatine tonsil. Several lipid species consistently differentiate tumor from healthy tissue, highlighting their potential as diagnostic markers.

Research on Fiber-Optic Optical Coherence Ranging System Based on Laser Frequency Scanning Interferometry

open access: yesSensors
In this paper, a system for absolute distance measurement is proposed based on laser frequency scanning interferometry (FSI). The system utilizes a digitally tunable laser as the light source and employs synchronized pulses to drive an analog-to-digital ...
