Long-Distance Measurements Using a Chromatic Confocal Sensor

open access: yesApplied Sciences
In this work, we demonstrate the use of a chromatic confocal sensor for long-distance measurements. The sensor increases the working distance of state-of-the-art confocal sensors by a factor of 10, reaching a working distance of 620 mm.

Air temperature measurements based on the speed of sound to compensate long distance interferometric measurements

open access: yesEPJ Web of Conferences, 2014
A method to measure the real time temperature distribution along an interferometer path based on the propagation of acoustic waves is presented. It exploits the high sensitivity of the speed of sound in air to the air temperature. In particular, it takes

Genetic attenuation of ALDH1A1 increases metastatic potential and aggressiveness in colorectal cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aldehyde dehydrogenase 1A1 (ALDH1A1) is a cancer stem cell marker in several malignancies. We established a novel epithelial cell line from rectal adenocarcinoma with unique overexpression of this enzyme. Genetic attenuation of ALDH1A1 led to increased invasive capacity and metastatic potential, the inhibition of proliferation activity, and ultimately ...

A Relative-Localization Algorithm Using Incomplete Pairwise Distance Measurements for Underwater Applications

open access: yesEURASIP Journal on Advances in Signal Processing, 2010
The task of localizing underwater assets involves the relative localization of each unit using only pairwise distance measurements, usually obtained from time-of-arrival or time-delay-of-arrival measurements.

Comparison of distance measures in spatial analytical modeling for health service planning

open access: yesBMC Health Services Research, 2009
Background Several methodological approaches have been used to estimate distance in health service research. In this study, focusing on cardiac catheterization services, Euclidean, Manhattan, and the less widely known Minkowski distance metrics are used ...

Targeted modulation of IGFL2‐AS1 reveals its translational potential in cervical adenocarcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Cervical adenocarcinoma patients face worse outcomes than squamous cell carcinoma counterparts despite similar treatment. The identification of IGFL2‐AS1's differential expression provides a molecular basis for distinguishing these histotypes, paving the way for personalized therapies and improved survival in vulnerable populations globally.

Estimasi Jarak Genetik antar Domba Garut Tipe Tangkas dengan Tipe Pedaging

open access: yesMedia Peternakan, 2007
The objectives of the present study were to estimate the genetic distance and to determine the discriminant variables among fighting and meat types sheep of Garut (Garut sheep). A total of 413 heads of Garut sheep from five sub-populations were used in

How Distance Affects Gamma-Ray Burst Prompt Emission Measurements

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
We investigated how gamma-ray burst (GRB) prompt emission measurements are affected by increasing distance to the source. We selected a sample of 26 bright GRBs with measured redshifts z   3) GRBs to a sample of 72 observed high- z bursts and found that ...

Statistical Test of Distance--Duality Relation with Type Ia Supernovae and Baryon Acoustic Oscillations

open access: yes, 2018
We test the distance--duality relation $\eta \equiv d_L / [ (1 + z)^2 d_A ] = 1$ between cosmological luminosity distance ($d_L$) from the JLA SNe Ia compilation (arXiv:1401.4064) and angular-diameter distance ($d_A$) based on Baryon Oscillation ...
