Impact of Pre‐Oxidation Treatments on a Recycled MgO/Steel‐Composite as Carbon Free Anode in Aluminum‐Electrolysis Environments

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Cermets (60 vol.% AISI 316L stainless steel, 40 vol.% recycled MgO), intended for use in aluminum electrolysis, were pre‐oxidized in three furnaces with different heating technologies and subjected to a cryolite corrosion test. The different atmospheres influenced the formation of oxide layers, which in turn affected corrosion resistance and ...

Optimization Techniques to Deeply Mine the Transcriptomic Profile of the Sub-Genomes in Hybrid Fish Lineage

open access: yesFrontiers in Genetics, 2019
It has been shown that reciprocal cross allodiploid lineage with sub-genomes derived from the cross of Megalobrama amblycephala (BSB) × Culter alburnus (TC) generates the variations in phenotypes and genotypes, but it is still a challenge to deeply mine ...

First-Principles Calculations of Hyperfine Interactions in La_2CuO_4

open access: yes, 1999
We present the results of first-principles cluster calculations of the electronic structure of La_2CuO_4. Several clusters containing up to nine copper atoms embedded in a background potential were investigated. Spin-polarized calculations were performed

Migration of germline progenitor cells is directed by sphingosine-1-phosphate signalling in a basal chordate. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
The colonial ascidian Botryllus schlosseri continuously regenerates entire bodies in an asexual budding process. The germ line of the newly developing bodies is derived from migrating germ cell precursors, but the signals governing this homing process ...

Affecting the Properties of Copper–Graphene Electroconductive Composite by Severe Plastic Deformation

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Copper‐based composites enhanced with carbon feature convenient mechanical properties and favorable electric conductivity. Processing via deformation and thermomechanical treatments can introduce advantageous microstructures further enhancing their performance. Herein, copper–graphene powder‐based composites are directly consolidated via rotary swaging

What future for codetermination and corporate governance in Germany? [PDF]

open access: yes
Contrary to the prognosis derived from the variety of capitalism literature, since the mid-90s the significant restructuring of large German corporations in the direction of shareholder value seems to have been compatible with the persistence of a ...

Multimodal Data‐Driven Microstructure Characterization

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A self‐consistent autonomous workflow for EBSP‐based microstructure segmentation by integrating PCA, GMM clustering, and cNMF with information‐theoretic parameter selection, requiring no user input. An optimal ROI size related to characteristic grain size is identified.

Negative spatial regulation of the lineage specific CyIIIa actin gene in the sea urchin embryo [PDF]

open access: yes, 1990
The CyIIIa·CAT fusion gene was injected into Strongylocentrotus purpuratus eggs, together with excess ligated competitor sequences representing subregions of the CyIIIa regulatory domain.

Analyzing Electronic Excitations and Exciton Binding Energies in Y6 Films

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The Y6 molecule is used for increasing the efficiency of organic solar cells. The exciton binding energy is calculated for ensembles of Y6 molecules that are representative of the typically used films. The calculations show that the excitons typically spread out over many molecules.

Transcriptomic profiling reveals the mechanism of fast growth of an allodiploid hybrid fish

open access: yesReproduction and Breeding
Distant hybridization is an important technique and widely used in fish genetic breeding. In previous research, we obtained the allodiploid hybrid (BR, 2n = 49) derived from the inter-subfamily hybridization of female blunt snout bream (Megalobrama ...
