Using a J2EE Cluster for Parallel Computation of Join Queries in Distributed Databases

Third International Symposium on Parallel and Distributed Computing/Third International Workshop on Algorithms, Models and Tools for Parallel Computing on Heterogeneous Networks, 2005
In here we consider the problem of parallel execution of Join operation by a J2EE cluster. J2EE clusters are intended for coarse-grain distributed processing of multiple queries/business transactions over the Web. Thus, the possibility of using a J2EE cluster for fine-grain parallel computations (parallel Joins in our case) is intriguing and of ...

Teaching Parallel and Distributed Computing with MPI on Raspberry Pi Clusters

Proceedings of the 49th ACM Technical Symposium on Computer Science Education, 2018
CS2013 brings parallel and distributed computing (PDC) into the CS curricular mainstream. The Message Passing Interface (MPI) is a platform independent, industry-standard library for parallel and distributed computing. The MPI standard includes support for C, C++, and Fortran; third parties have created implementations for Python and Java.

A Case Study of Teaching Parallel and Distributed Computing Topics on a Computer Cluster

Journal of Cases on Information Technology, 2014
This paper presents the establishment of cluster computing lab at a minority serving institution that aims to provide computing resources to support undergraduate computer science curriculum. The computing resources of the cluster are managed by a job distribution environment that allows the users to upload, compile, and run their jobs.

Piecewise Cubic Interpolation on Distributed Memory Parallel Computers and Clusters of Workstations

International Symposium on Parallel Computing in Electrical Engineering (PARELEC'06), 2006
The aim of this paper is to present two new portable and high performance implementations of routines that can be used for piecewise cubic interpolation. The first one (sequential) is based on LAPACK routines, while the next, based on ScaLAPACK is designed for distributed memory parallel computers and clusters. The results of experiments performed on a

Distributed parallel file system for I/O intensive parallel computing on clusters

(ICEEE). 1st International Conference on Electrical and Electronics Engineering, 2004., 2005
Local area networks are now widely used to run parallel applications. They are particularly suitable to run I/O intensive applications, because each node usually includes disk space. However, programming these applications is rather difficult. The programmer must partition data into disk nudes and, at run time, transfer data from disk space into the ...

Heterogeneous Clustering Computing Based on Parallel Task Distribution

2012
To improve the computing efficiency of heterogeneous cluster, this paper presents a parallel task distribution approach for heterogeneous cluster. According to the computing power of each node in the cluster, the paper computes the weight of each node dynamically from the perspective of the predicated evaluation of system pressure.

Parallelization Analysis on Clusters of Multicore Nodes Using Shared and Distributed Memory Parallel Computing Models

2009 WRI World Congress on Computer Science and Information Engineering, 2009
This paper presents alternatives and performance results obtained by analyzing parallelization on a cluster of multicore nodes. The ultimate goal is to show if both shared and distributed memory parallel processing models need to be taken into account independently, or if one affects the other and both must be considered simultaneosly.

The Raspberry Pi Education Mine: For Teaching Engineering and Computer Science Students Concepts Like, Computer Clusters, Parallel Computing, and Distributed Computing

2020 IEEE International Conference on Electro Information Technology (EIT), 2020
This paper introduces a simple method of building a prototype cluster of the Raspberry Pi. The Pi cluster is a powerful-low-cost tool for teaching the complex concepts of parallel and distributed computing to undergraduate E&CS students. The performance of the presented Pi cluster is assessed using two different applications of face recognition and ...
