Associations Between Severe Food Insecurity and Food Addiction in Brazilian Low‐Income Women

open access: yesEuropean Eating Disorders Review, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective The present study aims to assess the distribution of food addiction (FA) across different levels of food insecurity (FI) in Brazilian women of reproductive age living in poverty, and to investigate the association between FA and FI. Method This is a cross‐sectional study conducted between October 2020 and May 2021 in 40 urban favelas

A Degradation Function Consistent with Cocks–Ashby Porosity Kinetics [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
The load carrying capacity of ductile materials degrades as a function of porosity, stress state and strain-rate. The effect of these variables on porosity kinetics is captured by the Cocks–Ashby model; however, the Cocks–Ashby model does not account for

High-throughput in-situ characterization and modelling of precipitation kinetics in compositionally graded alloys [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
The development of new engineering alloy chemistries is a time consuming and iterative process. A necessary step is characterization of the nano/microstructure to provide a link between the processing and properties of each alloy chemistry considered ...

Improving Implied Volatility Forecasts for American Options Using Neural Networks

open access: yesJournal of Futures Markets, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This paper explores the application of neural networks to improve pricing of American options. Focusing on both American and European options on the S&P 100 index from January 2016 to August 2023, we integrate neural networks to model the difference between market‐implied and model‐implied volatilities derived from the Black‐Scholes and Heston

Sensitive Period Analysis of Adulthood BMI and Cancer Risk: An Individual Participant Data Meta‐Analysis of Over 720,000 Participants in the ABACus 2 Consortium

open access: yesInternational Journal of Cancer, EarlyView.
Over a dozen cancers have been associated with excess body mass index, primarily in mid‐to‐late adulthood. Whether obesity‐related cancer risk differs across adulthood remains unclear. Using the Sensitive Periods Model and super‐landmarking approaches, this study found that higher BMI increased obesity‐related cancer risk across ages 30–65.

Risk of Head and Neck Cancer in Former Smokers by Subsite: A Multicenter Analysis From the INHANCE Consortium

open access: yesInternational Journal of Cancer, EarlyView.
Tobacco use and alcohol consumption are primary risk factors for head and neck squamous cell carcinoma, with combined use occurring in three‐quarters of cases. This large international study of former smokers shows that the risk reduction effect of smoking cessation occurs more slowly for laryngeal cancer than for other head and neck cancer subsites ...

Analytical coupled-wave model for photonic crystal quantum cascade lasers

open access: yes, 2017
A coupled-wave model is developed for photonic-crystal quantum cascade lasers. The analytical model provides an efficient analysis of full three-dimensional large-area device structure, and the validity is confirmed via simulations and previous ...

Blood‐Based Circulating Tumor DNA Assays for Early Colorectal Cancer Detection: A Systematic Review of Performance in Asymptomatic Screening Populations

open access: yesInternational Journal of Cancer, EarlyView.
Early detection of colorectal cancer via population‐based screening programs can reduce incidence and mortality, but current screening approaches are limited. This systematic review evaluated the screening potential of blood‐based circulating tumor DNA assays in asymptomatic screening populations.
