Systemic dysregulation of apolipoproteins in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis serum

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a fatal disease that damages motor neurons. This study found that people with ALS show significant changes in blood fats and the proteins that carry them. Several apolipoproteins were higher, lipid balances were altered, and normal protein–lipid relationships were disrupted.

Adaptive resilient control for a class of nonlinear distributed parameter systems with actuator faults

open access: yesSystems Science & Control Engineering
This paper presents a new model-based fault resilient control scheme for a class of nonlinear distributed parameter systems (DPS) represented by parabolic partial differential equations (PDE) in the presence of actuator faults. A Luenberger-like observer

Large‐scale bidirectional arrayed genetic screens identify OXR1 and EMC4 as modifiers of αSynuclein aggregation

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Activation of the mitochondrial protein OXR1 increases pSyn129 αSynuclein aggregation by lowering ATP levels and altering mitochondrial membrane potential, particularly in response to MSA‐derived fibrils. In contrast, ablation of the ER protein EMC4 enhances autophagic flux and lysosomal clearance, broadly reducing α‐synuclein aggregates.

Identification for distributed parameter systems [PDF]

open access: yes
This thesis considers the parameter identification problem for systems governed by partial differential equations. The various identification methods sire grouped into three disjoint classes namely: "Direct Methods", "Reduction to a Lumped Parameter System", and "Reduction to an Algebraic Equation".\ud The major subject investigated here is concerned ...

The skills required for transition to university and study in biological sciences: A student perspective

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Bioscience students were asked for their opinions on the value and teaching of skills. 204 responded that teamwork, time management and study skills are necessary to reach University, that scientific writing, research, laboratory and presentation skills are taught effectively during their studies, while other skills are gained inherently through study ...

Molecular dynamics simulations of positively selected codons in FcγRI reveal novel biochemical binding properties

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Evolutionary analysis across 32 placental mammals identified positive selection at residues H148 and W149 in the immune receptor FcγR1. Ancestral reconstruction combined with molecular dynamics simulations reveals how these mutations may influence receptor structure and dynamics, providing insight into the evolution of antibody recognition and immune ...

Invertibility in Multivariable Parabolic Distributed Parameter Systems

open access: yes, 1982
A sufficient condition for the invertibility of multivariable distributed parameter systems described by partial differential equations of parabolic type is presented. For invertible systems, distributed inverse systems are constructed.

A fuzzy approach for robust reference tracking control for nonlinear distributed parameter time-delayed systems and its biological application

open access: yes, 2012
[[abstract]]This paper addresses the robust reference tracking control problem for nonlinear distributed parameter systems (NDPSs) with time delays, external disturbances and measurement noises. The NDPS is measured at several sensor locations for output

Refinement of amino‐acid conformation vs. difference density maps in time‐resolved serial femtosecond crystallography data analysis

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The dFoCC pipeline starts with observed DED and resting‐state coordinates, which are then used to generate a library of triggered states. Correlation analysis of the calculated DED features of each candidate vs observed DED permits quantitative evaluation of candidate structural quality.

Identification of parameters in distributed parameter systems

open access: yes, 1971
This thesis deals with the identification of parameters in distributed parameter systems. Two sensitivity methods, namely; Meissinger's method and the method of structural sensitivity are extended to obtain the sensitivity coefficients of discretized ...
