Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Distance correlation coefficients for Lancaster distributions

open access: yesJournal of Multivariate Analysis, 2017
We consider the problem of calculating distance correlation coefficients between random vectors whose joint distributions belong to the class of Lancaster distributions. We derive under mild convergence conditions a general series representation for the distance covariance for these distributions.

An Overview of Composite Standard Elastic-Net Distribution Based on Complex Wavelet Coefficients

open access: yesJournal of Mathematics, 2022
Statistical tools have changed significantly in the past decade; when the maximum likelihood method is usually applied, it provides an inaccurate solution due to its unsuitable properties and causes problems in fit.

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Transport coefficients in modified Kappa distributed plasmas [PDF]

open access: yesAnnales Geophysicae
This work derives transport coefficients, i.e., electrical conductivity, thermoelectric, diffusion, and mobility coefficients, for a Lorentz plasma with a modified Kappa distribution.

Thermodynamics of As, Sb and Bi distribution during reverb furnace smelting [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Mining and Metallurgy. Section B: Metallurgy, 2002
The results of thermodynamic analysis of arsenic, antimony and bismuth distribution between copper matte and discard slag in reverberatory smelting at 1573 K are shown in this paper.

Septin 9 PB domains coordinate centrosome positioning and microtubule acetylation to control epithelial polarity

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Septin 9 polybasic domains couple phosphoinositide‐rich membrane binding to centrosome positioning, Golgi organization, and microtubule acetylation to control epithelial polarity. Their loss disrupts this axis, causing centrosome mispositioning, Golgi fragmentation, reduced microtubule acetylation, and polarity inversion via upregulation of the ...

Measuring the through-plane and in-plane oxygen apparent diffusion coefficients in the gas diffusion layer

open access: yesFrontiers in Energy Research, 2023
Accurately predicting oxygen mass transport resistance and current distribution in fuel cells requires significant knowledge of oxygen diffusion coefficients in both in-plane and through-plane directions.

Modulation of Homer1 EVH1 domain internal dynamics by putative autism‐associated mutations

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The putative autism‐associated M65I and S97L variants of the EVH1 domain of the postsynaptic scaffold protein Homer1 do not exhibit substantial changes in their overall structure or partner binding. Both of them, but especially the M65I variant, show altered internal dynamics relative to the wild‐type domain on the μs‐ms timescale, indicated by the ...

Salmonella lipopolysaccharide‐containing supported lipid bilayers as platforms to study bacteriophage interactions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present robust protocols for the preparation of supported lipid bilayers (SLBs) incorporating either Salmonella smooth LPS or outer membrane vesicles (OMVs). We use a combination of quartz crystal microbalance with dissipation (QCM‐D) and fluorescence microscopy to both characterize the SLBs of various compositions and to probe their interactions ...
