Application of compact static VAR compensators to distribution systems
IEEE Transactions on Power Delivery, 1990The application of SVCs (static volt-ampere reactive compensators) to distribution systems to solve voltage fluctuation problems is discussed. Fast and repetitive voltage fluctuations can exist on an electric utility's distribution system. These voltage fluctuations, which are usually caused by motor-starting or other pulsating or irregular loads such ...

Transmission voltage support using distributed static compensation
2014 IEEE PES General Meeting | Conference & Exposition, 2014FACTS devices such as static var compensators (SVC) or static compensators (STATCOM) are often examined in transmission planning studies and applied in transmission systems for reactive power control and voltage support. For some transmission applications and also for smaller utilities that need to deal with voltage issues at the distribution system ...

New control method for distribution network distributed static series compensator
5th IET International Conference on Power Electronics, Machines and Drives (PEMD 2010), 2010This paper presents a new control method developed to enhance the performance of distributed static series compensator (DSSC) employed as a FACTS device on an 11KV distribution line. The new feedback based control strategy, based on the calculation of instantaneous power flows, is used to grantee an orthogonal injected voltage with respect to the line ...

Voltage Sag Mitigation Using Distribution Static Compensator
2020In growing countries like India, the poor power quality and other similar causes are various burning issues and they are paying a lot for their solutions. In the absence of proper power quality, the impressionable loads in various industries may be disturbed due to unbalanced voltage, current or frequency and because of this, failure can occur at ...

Optimization of a Distribution Static Compensator by Bacterial Foraging Technique
2006 International Conference on Machine Learning and Cybernetics, 2006Finding the gains of proportional plus integral (PI) controller for the control of distribution static compensator by conventional methods is a very laborious and time consuming task. Moreover, the optimum solution may get trapped into the local minima.

Fuzzy logic controller based distribution static compensator
2014 IEEE Students' Conference on Electrical, Electronics and Computer Science, 2014This paper presents distribution static compensator (DSTATCOM) using a Takagi-Sugeno (TS) fuzzy logic controller (FLC) for harmonic elimination, power factor correction, load balancing and voltage regulation. The TS fuzzy logic controller is based on linguistic variables which eliminates the need of a mathematical model of the DSTATCOM.

Performance evaluation of power converters with distribution static compensator
2010 Joint International Conference on Power Electronics, Drives and Energy Systems & 2010 Power India, 2010Twelve pulse nonlinear loads are generally employed in high power applications for large AC and DC drives. These 12-pulse rectifiers are utilized for high power loads because of comparatively less supply current Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) compared to 6-pulse rectifier at front end.

Probabilistic Worth Assessment of Distributed Static Series Compensators
IEEE Transactions on Power Delivery, 2011The deployment of flexible ac transmission system (FACTS) devices, despite miscellaneous benefits and applications, has been restricted mainly due to their large investment costs. Accordingly, the notion of distributed FACTS (D-FACTS) was recently proposed. Distributed static series compensators (DSSCs), as a new member of D-FACTS, are directly clamped

Using a static VAr compensator to balance a distribution system
IAS '96. Conference Record of the 1996 IEEE Industry Applications Conference Thirty-First IAS Annual Meeting, 1999An algorithm for applying a fixed capacitor-thyristor controlled reactor (FC-TCR) type of static VAr compensator (SVC) in the distribution system to dynamically balance a system is introduced. With a newly developed individual phase control scheme, an SVC can reduce negative sequence current caused by the load to improve system balance.
