PMU-based Distribution System State Estimation
TENCON 2018 - 2018 IEEE Region 10 Conference, 2018Phasor measurement unit (PMU) technologies provide new opportunities for state estimation, even an opportunity to replace SCADA-based state estimators. This paper presents a state estimator that utilizes only PMU measurements, namely bus voltage magnitudes and angles. Linear regression was used to generate mathematical models.

Voltage Sag State Estimation for Power Distribution Systems
IEEE Transactions on Power Systems, 2005Summary form only given. The increased awareness on power quality has resulted in the need to quantify the voltage sag performance of a distribution feeder, similar to what has been done on characterizing the reliability performance of a feeder. Since it is impossible to measure the sag level at every node of a distribution feeder, estimation of sag ...

Feasibility Study: Autonomous State Estimation in Distribution Systems
IEEE Transactions on Power Systems, 2011We propose an autonomous state estimation based on robotic concepts and advanced state estimation methods. An autonomous, intelligent monitoring infrastructure is proposed that reliably and automatically detects devices as they are plugged-in or -out; it identifies changes in system state and automatically updates the real-time model of the system. The

On the robustness in distribution system state estimation
2012 IEEE International Instrumentation and Measurement Technology Conference Proceedings, 2012The correct behavior of control and protection schemes is basically determined by the availability of accurate information on the system status. For economical reasons the distribution networks are just partially monitored networks. The few real measurements and all the a priori data provide information for distribution system state estimation (DSSE ...

Branch-estimation-based state estimation for radial distribution systems
2000 IEEE Power Engineering Society Winter Meeting. Conference Proceedings (Cat. No.00CH37077), 2002This paper presents a new state estimation method for radial distribution systems, which can handle ail kinds of real-time measurements. In contrast to traditional weighted-least-square (WLS) method, the novel idea of this algorithm is to decompose the WLS problem of whole system into a series of WLS sub-problems and each sub-problem is to deal with ...

Scalable distribution state estimation approach for Distribution Management Systems
2011 2nd IEEE PES International Conference and Exhibition on Innovative Smart Grid Technologies, 2011The flexibility and controllability of the distribution network is only possible if control centre tools and control engineers have a more accurate representation of the grid in real-time. Therefore, one of the main objectives of new Distribution Management Systems (DMS) is to enhance the observability of MV networks in order to run new automation ...

State Estimation in the Power Distribution System
ACM SIGMETRICS Performance Evaluation Review, 2019In the domain of power distribution network, software that can estimate the grid state using several measurement values as input has been rarely used in the low voltage grid. Such software tools are based on adaptive state estimation methods and their accuracy highly depends on the available input data.

A branch-estimation-based state estimation method for radial distribution systems
IEEE Transactions on Power Delivery, 2002This paper presents a new branch-based state-estimation method that is an estimation technique for radial distribution systems that can handle most kinds of real-time measurements. In contrast to the traditional weighted-least-square (WLS) method, the idea of this algorithm is to decompose the WLS problem of a whole system into a series of WLS ...

State estimation distributed processing [for power systems]
IEEE Transactions on Power Systems, 2000This paper presents an application of a parallel algorithm to power systems state estimation. The authors apply the auxiliary problem principle to develop a distributed state estimator, demonstrating its performance on the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) and the Southwest Power Pool (SPP) systems.

Distributed processing in power system state estimation
2000 10th Mediterranean Electrotechnical Conference. Information Technology and Electrotechnology for the Mediterranean Countries. Proceedings. MeleCon 2000 (Cat. No.00CH37099), 2005State estimation is nowadays considered the fundamental element of modern electrical power network control centers. In this paper we develop a theoretically robust and computationally efficient state estimator algorithm, to solve the weighted least squares (WLS) problem by using parallel processing. The computational aspects of the parallel processing,
