A New Representation of the k-Gamma Functions

open access: yesMathematics, 2019
The products of the form z ( z + l ) ( z + 2 l ) … ( z + ( k − 1 ) l ) are of interest for a wide-ranging audience. In particular, they frequently arise in diverse situations, such as computation of Feynman integrals ...

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

A Guide to the Dagum Distributions [PDF]

open access: yes
In a series of papers in the 1970s, Camilo Dagum proposed several variants of a new model for the size distribution of personal income. This Chapter traces the genesis of the Dagum distributions in applied economics and points out parallel developments ...

Valosin‐containing protein counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its ATPase activity in vitro

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.

HE 2.1.2 HADRON DISTRIBUTIONS IN THE CORE OF 100 TeV EXTENSIVE AIR SHOWERS

open access: yes, 2007
With the central hadron calorimeter of the KASCADE experiment the cores of extensive air showers corresponding to primary energies around 100 TeV are investigated. The accurate position of the shower core is determined with a scintillator array on top of

The ubiquitin ligase RNF115 is required for the clearance of damaged lysosomes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Upon lysosomal rupture, an E3 ubiquitin ligase RNF115 translocates from the cytosol to the damaged lysosomal membrane. Moreover, RNF115 depletion impairs the clearance of damaged lysosomes, identifying it as a key regulator of lysosomal quality control.

Habitat availability and depth‐driven population demographics regulate reproductive output of a coral reef fish

open access: yesEcosphere, 2016
Global habitat decline may displace organisms from optimal environments, increasing reliance on ecosystems with lower habitat suitability and availability.

Organizing the interface—Plasma membrane architecture and receptor dynamics in virus‐cell interactions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Plasma membranes contain dynamic nanoscale domains that organize lipids and receptors. Because viruses operate at similar scales, this architecture shapes early infection steps, including attachment, receptor engagement, and entry. Using influenza A virus and HIV‐1 as examples, we highlight how receptor nanoclusters, multivalent glycan interactions ...

Parametric Continuity of Stationary Distributions [PDF]

open access: yes
The paper gives conditions under which stationary distributions of Markov models depend continuously on the parameters. It extends a well-known parametric continuity theorem for compact state space to the unbounded setting of standard econometrics and ...

pH‐mediated activation of the lysosomal arginine sensor SLC38A9

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Cells monitor nutrient levels via the lysosomal transporter SLC38A9 to activate the mechanistic target of rapamycin complex 1 (mTORC1). This study reveals that SLC38A9 function is regulated by pH. We identified histidine 544 as a critical pH sensor that undergoes conformational changes to control amino acid efflux from lysosomes; therefore, it ...
