Protein disulphide isomerase-assisted functionalization of keratin-based matrices

open access: yes, 2011
In living systems, protein disulphide isomerase (PDI, EC 5.3.4.1) regulates the formation of new disulphide bonds in proteins (oxidase activity) and catalyzes the rearrangement of non-native disulphide bonds (isomerase activity), leading proteins ...

Deciphering Role of Endophytes in Plant Defences and Biotic Stress Resilience Across Families

open access: yesPlant, Cell &Environment, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Plant families generate distinct repertoires of specialised metabolites that govern their biotic interactions. Endophytes strengthen host plant defence mechanisms and tolerance to biotic challenges by upregulating metabolite biosynthesis, modifying precursor compounds into more potent forms, or by directly synthesising analogous defence ...

Analysis on conservation of disulphide bonds and their structural features in homologous protein domain families [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
International audienceBackground: Disulphide bridges are well known to play key roles in stability, folding and functions of proteins. Introduction or deletion of disulphides by site-directed mutagenesis have produced varying effects on stability and ...

Experimental models of cerebral small vessel disease: Physiological constraints, translational challenges and future directions

open access: yesThe Journal of Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract figure legend Overview of cerebral small vessel disease (cSVD) pathophysiology and current modelling challenges. Left: clinical burden and key unresolved research questions. Right: neurovascular unit (NVU) architecture highlighting sites of cSVD pathology across arterioles, capillaries and venules, including interactions between endothelial ...

Interactions between protein disulphide isomerase and peptides

open access: yes, 1997
There is growing evidence that protein disulphide isomerase (PDI) has a common chaperone function in the endoplasmic reticulum. To characterise this function, we investigated the interaction of purified PDI with radiolabelled model peptides, somatostatin

Structure Formation in Dairy Cheese and Plant‐Based Cheese Analogues: A Review

open access: yesSustainable Food Proteins, Volume 4, Issue 3, September 2026.
In this review, structure formation in dairy cheese and plant‐based cheese analogues is analyzed following a multi‐length scale perspective. Particular emphasis is placed on the distinction between bottom‐up assembly, characteristic of natural dairy cheese, and top‐down structuring, typical of processed cheese and cheese analogues.

Mex‐3 RNA‐binding family member A limits macrophage ferroptosis‐associated injury linked to the SLC7A11/GPX4 pathway in diabetic atherosclerosis

open access: yesClinical and Translational Medicine, Volume 16, Issue 7, July 2026.
Diabetes reduces macrophage MEX3A and aggravates atherosclerotic plaque instability. MEX3A stabilises Slc7a11 and Gpx4 mRNAs to sustain SLC7A11/GPX4 antioxidant defence. MEX3A deficiency promotes macrophage ferroptosis, lipid peroxidation and mitochondrial injury. Ferrostatin‐1 partially attenuates ferroptotic injury and diabetic plaque destabilisation.

Exploring atomic defects in molybdenum disulphide monolayers

open access: yes, 2015
Defects usually play an important role in tailoring various properties of two-dimensional materials. Defects in two-dimensional monolayer molybdenum disulphide may be responsible for large variation of electric and optical properties.
