Timing of diuretic administration effects on urine volume in hospitalized patients

open access: yesFrontiers in Physiology
Importance: Some medications have effects that depend on the time of day they are given. Current knowledge of the time-of-day effects of specific medications in hospitalized patients with cardiovascular disease is very limited.

Comparative performance of risk prediction indices for mortality or readmission following heart failure hospitalization

open access: yesESC Heart Failure, Volume 12, Issue 2, Page 1227-1236, April 2025.
Comparative performance of 7 risk prediction indices in patients hospitalized for heart failure. In this cohort of 1206 patients, the LENT index offered the greatest discrimination, calibration, and overall accuracy in predicting 30‐day composite all‐cause mortality or readmission following hospitalization for heart failure.

Long‐term cardiovascular outcomes of immune checkpoint inhibitor‐related myocarditis: A large single‐centre analysis

open access: yesESC Heart Failure, Volume 12, Issue 2, Page 1237-1245, April 2025.
Abstract Aims Immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICI) are the cornerstone of modern oncology; however, side effects such as ICI‐related myocarditis (irM) can be fatal. Recently, Bonaca proposed criteria for irM; however, it is unknown if they correlate well with cardiovascular (CV) ICI‐related adverse events.

Prognostic role of TAPSE to PASP ratio in outpatients with left ventricular systolic dysfunction

open access: yesESC Heart Failure, Volume 12, Issue 2, Page 912-922, April 2025.
Abstract Aims Few data are available regarding the role of tricuspid annulus plane systolic excursion to pulmonary artery systolic pressure (TAPSE/PASP), a measurement of right ventricular to pulmonary artery coupling, in patients with chronic heart failure and left ventricular systolic dysfunction.

Post-LVAD diuretic trajectories and predictors of diuretic resistance

open access: yesJournal of Cardiothoracic Surgery
Background Renal dysfunction and diuretic resistance may persist or develop after left ventricular assist device (LVAD) implantation despite restoration of cardiac output (CO). This study aimed to characterize post-LVAD diuretic trajectories and identify

Exercise limitations in amyloid cardiomyopathy assessed by cardiopulmonary exercise testing—A multicentre study

open access: yesESC Heart Failure, Volume 12, Issue 2, Page 1326-1335, April 2025.
Abstract Aims Amyloid cardiomyopathy is caused by the deposition of light chain (AL) or transthyretin amyloid (ATTR) fibrils, that leads to a restrictive cardiomyopathy, often resulting in heart failure (HF) with preserved or reduced ejection fraction.

Mechanistic insights into the diuretic activity of sugarcane leaf extract using untargeted metabolomics and bioinformatics

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science
IntroductionSugarcane leaf (Poaceae) is a widely cultivated herbaceous plant in the tropical regions of southern China. Traditional Yao medicine has utilized its significant diuretic effects for the treatment of edema-related diseases.

Cardiac atrial factor—an endogenous diuretic?

open access: yes, 1981
An extract of rat heart atria causes a saluresis in bioassay rats. When organic acid secretion in the proximal tubule was blocked by probenecid, the saluretic response to the extract was significantly reduced.

Cilostazol in patients with heart failure and preserved ejection fraction—The CLIP‐HFpEF trial

open access: yesESC Heart Failure, Volume 12, Issue 2, Page 1437-1446, April 2025.
• Cilostazol is an oral PDE‐3 inhibitor that may have advantageous effects in heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF). • Cilostazol significantly improved short‐term heart failure‐related health status scores (KCCQ‐12) and NT‐proBNP levels when compared to placebo.

Exploring Elimination Profiles and Metabolite Patterns of Brinzolamide and Dorzolamide After Transdermal Exposure for Doping Control Purposes

open access: yesELECTROPHORESIS, EarlyView.
Dermal exposure to the carbonic anhydrase inhibitors dorzolamide and brinzolamide is detected in blood and urine using liquid chromatography–high‐resolution/high‐accuracy mass spectrometry. Contamination at milligram level can, therefore, lead to adverse analytical findings in sports drug testing.
