The Diurnal Cycle of Precipitation in Tropical Cyclones

Journal of Climate, 2015
Abstract Position and intensity data from the International Best Track Archive for Climate Stewardship (IBTrACS) are combined with global, gridded precipitation estimates from the Tropical Rainfall Measuring Mission (TRMM) Multisatellite Precipitation Analysis (TMPA) for the period 1998–2013 to study the diurnal cycle of precipitation in

Diurnal Cycle of Precipitation Features Observed during DYNAMO

Journal of the Atmospheric Sciences, 2021
AbstractThis study uses shipborne (R/V Roger Revelle and R/V Mirai) radar, upper-air, ocean, and surface meteorology datasets from the DYNAMO field campaign to investigate the diurnal cycle (DC) of precipitation over the central Indian Ocean related to two distinct Madden–Julian oscillations (MJOs) observed.

The Diurnal Cycle of Precipitation in the Tropical Andes of Colombia

Monthly Weather Review, 2005
Abstract Using hourly records from 51 rain gauges, spanning between 22 and 28 yr, the authors study the diurnal cycle of precipitation over the tropical Andes of Colombia. Analyses are developed for the seasonal march of the diurnal cycle and its interannual variability during the two phases of El Niño–Southern Oscillation (ENSO).

Precipitation Diurnal Cycle over the Maritime Continent Modulated by the Climatological Annual Cycle

Journal of Climate, 2021
AbstractThe modulation of the diurnal cycle (DC) of precipitation over the Maritime Continent (MC) by the background annual cycle mean state was studied for the period of 1998–2014 through observational analyses and high-resolution simulations using the Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) Model.

Mapping diurnal cycles of precipitation over China through clustering

Journal of Hydrology, 2021
Abstract The diurnal cycle of precipitation is a fundamental mode of climatic variability. Based on an hourly 0.1° × 0.1° gauge-satellite merged precipitation dataset, which is provided by the China Meteorological Data Service Center, this study used the K-means clustering algorithm to map the diurnal cycles of precipitation in summer over China. The

Diurnal cycle of tropical precipitation in a general circulation model

Journal of Geophysical Research: Atmospheres, 2004
Hourly averaged precipitation rates from an ensemble of the Community Climate Model version 3 (CCM3) simulations for the 44‐month period from January 1998 through August 2001 are compared to observations from the Tropical Rainfall Measuring Mission (TRMM) satellite.

Mean diurnal cycle of monsoon precipitation: Unified model NCUM

Modeling Earth Systems and Environment, 2020
It is an essential component of the operational weather forecast agencies to capture the diurnal behavior of the rainfall on the spatiotemporal scale by numerical models for its accurate prediction. In this study, the mean diurnal cycle of precipitation is investigated with (i) atmospheric model-based predictions, (ii) space-based estimates, and (iii ...

Diurnal cycle of oceanic precipitation from microwave radiometry

IGARSS 2001. Scanning the Present and Resolving the Future. Proceedings. IEEE 2001 International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium (Cat. No.01CH37217), 2002
We examine the spatial and temporal distribution of the diurnal cycles derived from seasonal averages of 1/spl deg/ latitude by 1/spl deg/ longitude grids based on measurements of the TRMM Precipitation Radar. Afternoon maxima are found overland and nocturnal to early morning maxima are observed over the oceans.

Precipitation diurnal cycle over the Maritime Continent modulated by the MJO

Climate Dynamics, 2019
The modulation of diurnal cycle of precipitation over the Maritime Continent (MC) by the Madden–Julian Oscillation (MJO) during boreal winter was studied for the period of 1998–2014 using TRMM rainfall and MERRA reanalysis data. The RMM index by Wheeler and Hendon is used to define MJO phases.

Diurnal Cycle of Precipitation in the Himalayan Foothills – Observations and Model Results

2019
The interplay of the Indian Monsoon and the Himalayas is vital to many climatological aspects of the Himalayan foothill and foreland regions. A unique climate feature in the Himalayan foothill and foreland regions is a bi-modal diurnal cycle of precipitation with high rainfall amounts in the afternoon and around midnight. The reason for this night-time
