Seasonal Change of the Diurnal Cycle of Precipitation over Japan and Malaysia

Journal of Applied Meteorology, 1994
Abstract The diurnal cycle of precipitation is investigated using ground-based hourly observations for more than 10 years both in Japan and Malaysia. The diurnal cycle of precipitation in Japan is classified into three clusters. The first one has a peak in the morning, and the stations categorized into this cluster are located in coastal regions.

Impacts of shallow convection on the simulation of the tropical precipitation diurnal cycle

International Journal of Climatology, 2016
ABSTRACTWith the aim to examine the role of shallow convection in the simulation of the tropical precipitation diurnal cycle in boreal winter during 1998–2009, two simulations are carried out using the National Center for Atmospheric Research Community Atmosphere Model Version 3.0 (NCAR CAM3.0) model: a control run using standard model settings and a ...

Diurnal Cycle of Oceanic Precipitation from SSM/I Data

Monthly Weather Review, 1995
Abstract Four and a half years of the global monthly oceanic rain rates derived from the DMSP (Defense Meteorological Satellite Program) F-8 SSM/I (Special Sensor Microwave/Imager) data are used to study the diurnal cycles. Annual mean rainfall maps based on the SSM/I morning and evening observations are presented, and their differences are examined ...

Are Diurnal Precipitation and Temperature Cycle affected by Cities in a Changing Climate?

The Urban Heat Island (UHI) effect, characterized by elevated temperatures in urban areas compared to their rural surroundings, poses significant challenges to human health, energy consumption, and environmental sustainability. But how can cities influence precipitation patterns in their vicinity?

Impact of cities on the diurnal precipitation and temperature cycle in a changing climate

The relationship between urban areas and higher temperatures, commonly referred to as the urban heat island effect, is well-established within the scientific community and holds critical relevance for policymakers, given that a significant portion of the global population resides in urban regions.

The diurnal cycle of precipitation over the Maritime Continent

The archipelago straddling the equator between the Indian and Pacific Oceans, known as the Maritime Continent (MC), is a broad region experiencing very high mean precipitation rate. Powerful global circulation cells are driven by the significant latent heat released over the MC.
