Mathematical model of the cell division cycle of fission yeast [PDF]

open access: yesChaos: An Interdisciplinary Journal of Nonlinear Science, 2001
Much is known about the genes and proteins controlling the cell cycle of fission yeast. Can these molecular components be spun together into a consistent mechanism that accounts for the observed behavior of growth and division in fission yeast cells?

A Case‐Based Reasoning Approach to Model Manufacturing Constraints for Impact Extrusion

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A hybrid modeling approach is presented that combines constraint‐based process modeling and case‐based reasoning. The model formalizes manufacturing constraints and integrates simulation data to model complex manufacturing processes. The approach supports manufacturability analysis during product design through an adaptive modeling environment.

Partial derivative games in thermodynamics: A cognitive task analysis

open access: yesPhysical Review Special Topics. Physics Education Research, 2014
Several studies in recent years have demonstrated that upper-division students struggle with the mathematics of thermodynamics. This paper presents a task analysis based on several expert attempts to solve a challenging mathematics problem in ...

On Divisibility Properties of Truncated Binomial Series [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2014
The divisibility of truncated binomial series by their exponent n is analyzed. Divisibility is shown to depends on the divisibility characteristics of the integers constituting the binomials. Series division by the highest possible powers of n is examined.

Simulation of Inhomogeneous Refractive Index Fields Induced by Hot Tailored Forming Components

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This article presents a simulation model for simulating inhomogeneous refractive index fields (IRIF) in hot‐forged components, accounting for thermal influences and complex geometries. Through this simulation, a priori knowledge about the propagation of the IRIF can be obtained, allowing for the positioning of the component or an optical measurement ...

Finite transducers for divisibility monoids [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2006
Divisibility monoids are a natural lattice-theoretical generalization of Mazurkiewicz trace monoids, namely monoids in which the distributivity of the involved divisibility lattices is kept as an hypothesis, but the relations between the generators are not supposed to necessarily be commutations.

Stochastic stem cell models with mutation: A comparison of asymmetric and symmetric divisions [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2020
In order to fulfill cell proliferation and differentiation through cellular hierarchy, stem cells can undergo either asymmetric or symmetric divisions. Recent studies pay special attention to the effect of different modes of stem cell division on the lifetime risk of cancer, and report that symmetric division is more beneficial to delay the onset of ...

Bioinspired Design of Isotropic Lattices with Tunable and Controllable Anisotropy

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study introduces nested isotropic lattices, integrating architectural elements like nesting orders and orientations inspired by bioarchitectures. The design enables tunable anisotropy across nine mono‐nest and twenty multi‐nest lattices with 252 parametric variations, demonstrating transitions from shear‐ to tensile‐compression‐dominant behaviors ...

On the Rigidity and Mechanical Behavior of Triply Periodic Minimal Surfaces‐Based Lattices: Insights from Extensive Experiments and Simulations

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study examines the mechanical properties of triply periodic minimal surfaces (TPMS)‐based lattices, analyzing 36 architectures in elastic and plastic regimes. It evaluates the applicability of beam‐based scaling laws to TPMS lattices. Rigidity arises from the alignment of members with the load direction and solid regions preventing rotation.
