KDM7A and KDM1A inhibition suppresses tumour promoting pathways in prostate cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Treatment resistance is a major challenge for patients with advanced prostate cancer. This study examined an alternative approach to target the major prostate cancer‐promoting pathway by targeting epigenetic factors, whose levels are higher in tumours.

Exploration of natural cryoprotectants for cryopreservation of African catfish, Clarias gariepinus, Burchell 1822 (Pisces: Clariidae) spermatozoa

open access: yesCzech Journal of Animal Science, 2015
Toxicity is a major limitation to successful spermatozoa cryopreservation of fish. Due to this problem, it is critical to find potential cryoprotectants which are more environmental-friendly, non-toxic, easily prepared, and available at affordable prices.

N‐acetylcysteine attenuates oxidative stress‐mediated cell viability loss induced by dimethyl sulfoxide in cryopreservation of human nucleus pulposus cells: A potential solution for mass production

open access: yesJOR Spine, 2022
Background Cell therapy is considered a promising strategy for intervertebral disc (IVD) regeneration. However, cell products often require long‐term cryopreservation, which compromises cell viability and potency, thus potentially hindering ...

Stimulator of interferon genes agonist augmented antitumor immunity of osimertinib in Egfr‐mutated lung cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Combining osimertinib with the STING agonist ADU‐S100 activates innate and adaptive immunity to overcome the non‐inflamed microenvironment of Egfr‐mutant lung cancer. This combination increases NK and CD8+ T‐cell infiltration, associated with activation of the STING‐IRF3 pathway and local immunogenic cell death.

Sulphur compounds, methane, and phytoplankton: interactions along a north–south transit in the western Pacific Ocean [PDF]

open access: yesBiogeosciences, 2013
Here we present results of the first comprehensive study of sulphur compounds and methane in the oligotrophic tropical western Pacific Ocean. The concentrations of dimethylsuphide (DMS), dimethylsulphoniopropionate (DMSP), dimethylsulphoxide (DMSO), and ...

MITF maintains genome stability in nonmelanocyte lineages

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
MITF is essential for melanocyte survival and acts as an oncogene in 10%–20% of melanomas. We show that MITF depletion causes genome instability in nonmelanocytic cells, leading to LATS2‐mediated P53 activation, cell cycle arrest, and apoptosis. This study highlights the role of MITF as a genome maintenance factor beyond the melanocyte lineage. Created

Effect of perphenazine and prochlorperazine on viability of human astrocytes

open access: yesAnnales Academiae Medicae Silesiensis
Phenothiazine derivatives are well-known anti-psychotic drugs that possess several biological activities including anticancer activity. Much research provides data about its anticancer activity against human glioblastoma cell lines.

UV-B induced alteration of oxygen evolving reactions in pea thylakoid membranes as affected by scavengers of reactive oxygen species

open access: yesBiologia Plantarum, 2014
The effect of UV-B irradiation at temperatures of 22 and 4 °C on flash induced oxygen yields, photochemical activity, and energy transfer in pea thylakoid membranes in the absence and presence of scavengers of reactive oxygen species (ROS) was studied ...

A novel quinazolinone insulin receptor inhibitor and its synergy with an EGFR inhibitor in glucose‐driven glioblastoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The novel styrylquinazolinone‐based molecule W1B effectively suppresses glioblastoma by inhibiting IGF1R and EGFR. In high‐glucose microenvironments driving tumor resistance, W1B acts synergistically with the EGFR inhibitor dacomitinib. This combination safely blocks compensatory survival signaling in zebrafish xenograft models. Showcasing promising in
