There is an increased interest in the extraction of nucleic acids from various environmental samples, since molecular techniques allow less biased access to a greater portion of uncultivable microorganisms. Two strategies have been developed to improve DNA recovery in terms of yield, purity and unbiased representation of the microbial diversity.

The extraction of DNA strands including a given sequence of bases is a crucial step in the Adleman-Lipton extract model of DNA computing. In this paper, a special type of PCR is presented with a related algorithm which performs a specified extraction from a given pool of DNA double stranded (shortly dsDNA) molecules.

DNA Extraction from Keratin and Chitin [PDF]
DNA extracted from keratinous and chitinous materials can be a useful source of genetic information. To effectively liberate the DNA from these materials, buffers containing relatively high levels of DTT, proteinase K, and detergent are recommended, followed by purification using either silica-column or organic methods.

DNA Extraction, Preservation, and Amplification
2012The effectiveness of DNA barcoding as a routine practice in biodiversity research is strongly dependent on the quality of the source material, DNA extraction method, and selection of adequate primers in combination with optimized polymerase chain reaction (PCR) conditions.

Caulimovirus Isolation and DNA Extraction
1998Members of the cauhmovn-us group (1) each have a circular double-stranded DNA genome of approx 8 kbp that is encapsidated m a spherical, naked nucleocapsid of approx 50 nm diameter (Fig. 1). Caulimovnuses charactertsttcally produce subcellular mclusron bodies m infected tissues that contam most of the virions found in cells, embedded m an apparently ...

Extraction/Characterization of DNA
2012Abstract Some of the foundational procedures of modern biology are the extraction and characterization of DNA from various cultures and tissues. This chapter guides the reader through the key principles of DNA extraction using some of the most commonly needed procedures, including preparation of (1) plasmid DNA from bacterial cultures; (2) plant ...

Extraction of DNA from Paleofeces
2011Paleofeces are the nonmineralized remains of dung from extant and extinct fauna. They represent a surprisingly large proportion of fossil remains recovered from cave sites across the world. Paleofeces contain the DNA of the defecator as well as the DNA of ingested plant and animal remains.

Phytoplasma Plasmid DNA Extraction
2012Phytoplasma plasmids have generally been detected from DNA extracted from plants and insects using methods designed for the purification of total phytoplasma DNA. Methods include extraction from tissues that are high in phytoplasma titre, such as the phloem of plants, with the use of CsCl-bisbenzimide gradients that exploit the low G+C content of ...

The extraction of DNA from plants is the starting point for genotype analysis. The approach to preparation of DNA from plants is determined by the species, the type of tissue or sample available and the analysis required on the DNA. For example, extraction of DNA from the leaf of a cereal for analysis using a robust test may require a very different ...
