Democratizing DNA Fingerprinting [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
AbstractWe report a rapid, inexpensive, and portable strategy to re-identify human DNA using the MinION, a miniature sequencing sensor by Oxford Nanopore Technologies. Our strategy requires only 10-30 minutes of MinION sequencing, works with low input DNA, and enables familial searches.

Diversity of culturable moderately halophilic and halotolerant bacteria in a marsh and two salterns a protected ecosystem of Lower Loukkos (Morocco) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
To study the biodiversity of halophilic bacteria in a protected wetland located in Loukkos (Northwest, Morocco), a total of 124 strains were recovered from sediment samples from a marsh and salterns.

Trypanosoma evansi: Genetic variability detected using amplified restriction fragment length polymorphism (AFLP) and random amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD) analysis of Kenyan isolates [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
We compared two methods to generate polymorphic markers to investigate the population genetics of Trypanosoma evansi; random amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD) and amplified restriction fragment length polymorphism (AFLP) analyses.

The Global Transcription Regulator XooClp Governs Type IV Pili System-Mediated Bacterial Virulence by Directly Binding to TFP-Chp Promoters to Coordinate Virulence Associated Functions

open access: yesMolecular Plant-Microbe Interactions
Type IV pili (TFP) play a crucial role in the sensing of the external environment for several bacteria. This surface sensing is essential for the lifestyle transitions of several bacteria and involvement in pathogenesis.

Prevalence and characterisation of size and sequence-based microvariant alleles at nine autosomal STR markers in the Central Indian population

open access: yesAnnals of Human Biology, 2021
Background Though microvariant alleles are widely reported in global populations, they are not well characterised to date. Aim To study the prevalence and characterisation of size and sequence-based microvariant alleles Subjects and methods Next ...

Efficient DNA Fingerprinting Based on the Targeted Sequencing of Active Retrotransposon Insertion Sites Using a Bench-Top High-Throughput Sequencing Platform

open access: yesDNA Research, 2014
In many crop species, DNA fingerprinting is required for the precise identification of cultivars to protect the rights of breeders. Many families of retrotransposons have multiple copies throughout the eukaryotic genome and their integrated copies are ...

Diversity across Seasons of Culturable Pseudomonas from a Desiccation Lagoon in Cuatro Cienegas, Mexico. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Cuatro Cienegas basin (CCB) is a biodiversity reservoir within the Chihuahuan desert that includes several water systems subject to marked seasonality. While several studies have focused on biodiversity inventories, this is the first study that describes

Screening of 200 Core SNPs and the Construction of a Systematic SNP-DNA Standard Fingerprint Database with More Than 20,000 Maize Varieties

open access: yesAgriculture, 2021
To strengthen the management of maize varieties and the protection of intellectual property rights to new varieties, we constructed a comprehensive single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP)-DNA standard fingerprint database of 20,075 materials covering ...

Evaluation of Biochemical Marker - Glutathione and DNA Fingerprinting of Biofield Energy Treated Oryza sativa

open access: yes, 2015
Food production needs to increase to satisfy the demand due to increasing human population worldwide. To minimize this food crisis, an increase in the rice production is necessary in many countries. The current study was undertaken to evaluate the impact

Bodies of Science and Law: Forensic DNA Profiling, Biological Bodies, and Biopower [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
How is jurisdiction transferred from an individual's biological body to agents of power such as the police, public prosecutor and judiciary, and what happens to these biological bodies when transformed from private into public objects?
