Toxigenic Salmonella enterica exocytose the typhoid toxin during infection causing host cell DNA damage, which activates a Type‐1 Interferon‐like response characterised by interferon‐stimulated gene 15 (ISG15) expression. ISG15 was required for host cell survival during Interferon responses and suppressed intracellular growth of Salmonella. Thus, ISG15

Expression of proliferation-dependent antigens during cellular ageing of normal and progeroid human fibroblasts [PDF]
Normal human fibroblasts display a limited lifespan in culture, which is due to a steadily decreasing fraction of cells that are able to proliferate.

ABSTRACT Cassava (Manihot esculenta Crantz) exhibits exceptional tolerance to infertile soils and contains abundant cyanogenic glucosides (CGs). Previous research has indicated that CGs can serve as a significant reservoir of organic nitrogen in plants.

Type-II topoisomerases resolve topological stress in DNA through double-strand breaks. While topoisomerases are chemotherapy targets linked to therapy-related genotoxicity, TOP2B is uniquely positioned to influence mutagenesis through its activity in non-

Single-molecule FRET–based approach for protein-targeted drug discovery
: Many therapeutic drugs target various proteins involved in diverse biological processes. Among these proteins, type II topoisomerases are critical targets for anticancer and antibacterial chemotherapies, yet the action mechanisms of many type II ...

A RADAR-Based Assay to Isolate Covalent DNA Complexes in Bacteria
Quinolone antibacterials target the type II topoisomerases gyrase and topoisomerase IV and kill bacterial cells by converting these essential enzymes into cellular poisons. Although much is known regarding the interactions between these drugs and enzymes

A homogeneous type II DNA topoisomerase from HeLa cell nuclei.
Using kinetoplast DNA networks as a substrate in a decatenation assay, we have purified to apparent homogeneity a type II DNA topoisomerase from HeLa cell nuclei. The most pure preparations contain a single polypeptide of 172,000 daltons as determined by sodium dodecyl sulfate-gel electrophoresis.

RAD51 and RAD51 paralog inhibition sensitizes nonreplicating quiescent keratinocytes to UV radiation
UV radiation and other compounds generate DNA adducts that block transcription and induce cell death if not removed by the nucleotide excision repair system. In this work, we used a small‐scale pharmacological screen to discover that inhibition of the recombinase RAD51 sensitized nonreplicating quiescent keratinocytes to both UVR and other agents that ...

Antibiotic‐mediated immune modulation in periodontitis
Abstract Periodontitis is a chronic inflammatory disease affecting the supporting structures of the teeth. Although initiated by dysbiotic microbial communities, its progression is largely driven by the host's uncontrolled inflammatory response. While antibiotics have conventionally been employed in periodontitis therapy for their antimicrobial ...
