Phenotypic severity in a family with MEND syndrome is directly associated with the accumulation of potentially functional variants of cholesterol homeostasis genes

open access: yesMolecular Genetics &Genomic Medicine, Volume 7, Issue 9, September 2019., 2019
To explain the intrafamilial phenotypic variability in MEND syndrome, we performed whole‐exome sequencing (WES) for four related patients, each of whom represented a different degree of phenotypic severity. Variants of the homeostasis cholesterol genes were ranked according to the predicted magnitude of their effect through an in‐house scoring system ...

Longitudinal study describing time to Salmonella seroconversion in piglets on three farrow‐to‐finish farms

open access: yesVeterinary Record Open, Volume 6, Issue 1, January 2019., 2019
Background Pigs are frequently colonised with Salmonella enterica, and this constitutes a major risk for human salmonellosis. The infection can be assessed by the serological response of pigs to S enterica. A longitudinal study was undertaken on‐farm to correctly describe this serological response and investigate factors associated with age at ...

How Passive Neck Immobilisation Influences Tongue Mobility and Strength: An Observational Study

open access: yesJournal of Oral Rehabilitation, Volume 52, Issue 5, Page 604-615, May 2025.
ABSTRACT Background There is a physiological association of the neck movements and jaw and tongue movements. However, there are no previous data regarding the performance of the tongue when the neck is under a lack of movement condition. Objective To quantify the tongue's maximal strength and mobility under an experimental restriction of cervical ...

Nanostructured CeO2 Thin Films Prepared by the Sol‐Gel Dip‐Coating Method with Anomalous Behavior of Crystallite Size and Bandgap

open access: yesJournal of Nanomaterials, Volume 2019, Issue 1, 2019., 2019
Amorphous CeO2 thin films were deposited by a dip‐coating method on Corning glass substrates and annealed for one hour at the temperatures (T) of 250, 450, and 550°C in air for crystallization. The precursor solution was prepared by dissolving cerium acetate in methanol, lactic acid, glycerol, and trimethylamine at 55°C.

Bioremoval of Cobalt(II) from Aqueous Solution by Three Different and Resistant Fungal Biomasses

open access: yesBioinorganic Chemistry and Applications, Volume 2019, Issue 1, 2019., 2019
The biosorption of Co(II) on three fungal biomasses: Paecilomyces sp., Penicillium sp., and Aspergillus niger, was studied in this work. The fungal biomass of Paecilomyces sp. showed the best results, since it removes 93% at 24 h of incubation, while the biomasses of Penicillium sp.
