Epigenetic reprogramming of lineage switching in cancer

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Cancer cells rarely commit to a single identity. Epigenetic mechanisms and tumor microenvironment cues push epithelial cells toward flexible, hybrid states that can shift into mesenchymal, neuroendocrine, or stem‐like fates, driving metastasis, drug resistance, and tumor heterogeneity. Targeting the epigenetic regulators behind these transitions, using

From junk to function — How weak selection in eukaryotes builds new parts and drives genomic complexity

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
How do genomes gain new functional parts? In eukaryotes, which tend to evolve under weak selection, much of the genome is junk. Palazzo and Qiu borrow the logic of Markov chains to show how non‐functional DNA becomes functional through the appearance of intermediate states, which arise due to epistasis, buffering, and biochemical messiness, allowing ...

Urban Functional Zone Recognition Using the Fusion of POI and Impervious Surface Data: A Case Study of Chengdu, China

open access: yesLand
Accurately identifying an urban functional zone (UFZ) is crucial for rationally allocating urban land resources and optimizing urban spatial structure. Existing research based on Points of Interest (POIs) mostly uses the relationship between the number ...

The Shewanella oneidensis Fic enzyme SoFic targets the switch‐I region of EF‐Tu for AMPylation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Fic enzymes mediate diverse post‐translational modifications across all domains of life, including AMPylation. Prokaryotic EF‐Tu can be AMPylated and deAMPylated by the conserved Fic enzyme SoFic. Structural and biochemical approaches were used to characterize the effect of AMPylation on EF‐Tu, SoFic's enzymatic activities, and the enzyme‐target ...

Preventing document leakage through active document

open access: yes
Electronic documents inside any enterprise environment are assets that add to the enterprise’s capital in intellectual property such as design patents or customer information, securing, these assets is a priority requirement in any security system design.

Leucine‐rich glioma inactivated 1 (LGI1) is a ganglioside‐binding protein

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Neuronal hyperexcitability associated with a decrease/absence of the extracellular protein LGI1 has been suggested to be primarily due to the downregulation of Kv1 channel expression. The molecular mechanisms underlying this decrease have not yet been elucidated.

New Multi-Keyword Ciphertext Search Method for Sensor Network Cloud Platforms

open access: yesSensors, 2018
This paper proposed a multi-keyword ciphertext search, based on an improved-quality hierarchical clustering (MCS-IQHC) method. MCS-IQHC is a novel technique, which is tailored to work with encrypted data.

The role of miR‐335‐5p in the redifferentiation of BRAF p.V600E thyroid cancers

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The BRAF p.V600E mutation promotes thyroid cancer dedifferentiation and radioiodine resistance. Using a network approach, we identified miR‐335‐5p as a key regulator of BRAF‐mutated thyroid tumors. Restoring miR‐335‐5p increased thyroid‐specific gene expression and iodine uptake in cells and organoids.

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...
