Clustering of Dust-Obscured Galaxies at z ~ 2 [PDF]

open access: yesAstrophys.J.687:L65-L68, 2008, 2008
We present the angular autocorrelation function of 2603 dust-obscured galaxies (DOGs) in the Bootes field of the NOAO Deep Wide-Field Survey. DOGs are red, obscured galaxies, defined as having R-[24] \ge 14 (F_24/F_R \ga 1000). Spectroscopy indicates that they are located at 1.5 \la z \la 2.5.

Noise Impacts from Professional Dog Grooming Forced-Air Dryers [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
This study was designed to measure the sound output of four commonly used brands of forced-air dryers used by dog groomers in the United States. Many dog groomers have questions about the effect of this exposure on their hearing, as well as on the ...

Social dog — emotional dog?

open access: yesAnimal Sentience, 2017
Based on their high sociability and their capabilities in social cognition, we should consider that dogs experience rich emotions in the social domain. I discuss the importance of dog-human attachment and some of the controversial evidence for so-called secondary emotions, which leaves many questions to answer.

The Saccharomyces cerevisiae amino acid transporter Lyp1 has a broad substrate spectrum

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In Saccharomyces cerevisiae, Yeast Amino acid Transporter family members mediate the import of amino acids, ranging from substrate specialists to generalists. Here, we show that the specialist transporter, Lyp1, has a broader substrate spectrum than previously described, with affinity constants spanning from micromolar to millimolar.

Noncooperative Herding With Control Barrier Functions: Theory and Experiments [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2022
In this paper, we consider the problem of protecting a high-value unit from inadvertent attack by a group of agents using defending robots. Specifically, we develop a control strategy for the defending agents that we call "dog robots" to prevent a flock of "sheep agents" from breaching a protected zone.

The cytoskeletal control of B cell receptor and integrin signaling in normal B cells and chronic lymphocytic leukemia

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In lymphoid organs, antigen recognition and B cell receptor signaling rely on integrins and the cytoskeleton. Integrins act as mechanoreceptors, couple B cell receptor activation to cytoskeletal remodeling, and support immune synapse formation as well as antigen extraction.

DoG is SGD's Best Friend: A Parameter-Free Dynamic Step Size Schedule [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2023
We propose a tuning-free dynamic SGD step size formula, which we call Distance over Gradients (DoG). The DoG step sizes depend on simple empirical quantities (distance from the initial point and norms of gradients) and have no ``learning rate'' parameter.
