A splice variant in KRT71 is associated with curly coat phenotype of Selkirk Rex cats. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
One of the salient features of the domestic cat is the aesthetics of its fur. The Selkirk Rex breed is defined by an autosomal dominant woolly rexoid hair (ADWH) abnormality that is characterized by tightly curled hair shafts.

Managing the dominant follicle in high-producing dairy cows [PDF]

open access: yesBioscientifica Proceedings, 2010
Reduced reproductive efficiency has been reported in high-producing dairy cows. Sources of reproductive inefficiency include decreased expression of estrus, increased diameter of the ovulatory follicle and reduced fertility when cows are inseminated after estrus, increased incidence of double ovulation and twinning, and increased pregnancy loss.

Ovarian follicle growth dynamics during the postpartum period in Holstein cows and effects of contemporary cyst occurrence

open access: yesCzech Journal of Animal Science, 2012
The indicators of follicle development with regard to the growth wave order, the first ovulation, animal parity, and also with regard to the simultaneous presence or absence of a follicular cyst were determined in cows in the course of 60 days postpartum.

Rescue from dominant follicle atresia by follicle-stimulating hormone in mice

open access: yesGenetics and Molecular Research, 2013
We investigated the effects of follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) on atresia of the dominant follicle and changes in relevant apoptosis genes in granulosa cells of dominant follicles regulated by FSH in vivo. Four-week-old mice were administered FSH by intraperitoneal injection to induce follicular maturation. Granulosa cells of dominant follicles were

Estrous behavior in dairy cows: identification of underlying mechanisms and gene functions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Selection in dairy cattle for a higher milk yield has coincided with declined fertility. One of the factors is reduced expression of estrous behavior. Changes in systems that regulate the estrous behavior could be manifested by altered gene expression ...
