Formula milk versus donor breast milk for feeding preterm or low birth weight infants

open access: yes, 2015
Background: When sufficient maternal breast milk is not available, the alternative sources of enteral nutrition for preterm or low birth weight infants are donor breast milk or artificial formula milk.

The Commodification of Breast Milk

open access: yesVoices in Bioethics, 2015
In recent months, a controversy surrounding the commodification of breast milk has resurfaced, indicating that the currently uncontrolled market may need regulation.[1] In autumn 2014, a corporation called Medolac Laboratories sought to purchase breast ...

Accurate and noninvasive prostate cancer detection using plasma‐derived extracellular vesicle RNA

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Plasma extracellular vesicles were captured with WGA‐conjugated magnetic beads and profiled for RNA biomarkers. A three‐RNA panel (NM_024955, NR_047469, and NR_002564) distinguished prostate cancer from healthy controls and benign prostatic hyperplasia, supporting a simple, noninvasive approach to improve prostate cancer detection.

Attitudes towards human milk banking among native turkish and refugee women residing in a rural region of Turkey: a mixed-methods approach

open access: yesInternational Breastfeeding Journal, 2022
Background Human milk banks (HMB) play an essential role by providing human milk to infants who would otherwise not be able to receive mother’s milk. There is currently no donor milk bank in Turkey.

Type I interferons modulate autophagy to shape gemcitabine response in pancreatic cancer cells

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Type I interferons differentially modulate autophagy and the response of pancreatic cancer cells to gemcitabine. IFNα2b stimulates autophagic flux and protects cells from gemcitabine‐induced cell death, contributing to chemoresistance. In contrast, IFNβ1a inhibits autophagosome formation and enhances gemcitabine‐induced cell death, resulting in ...

Myogenic Fusogen‐Engineered Lipid Nanoparticles Enhance mRNA Delivery in Skeletal Muscle

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study reports a biomimetic strategy of engineering full‐length Myomaker, a muscle‐specific fusogen, into lipid nanoparticles (LNPs) to harness the native myoblast fusion capability for skeletal muscle mRNA delivery. The resulting Mymk‐LNPs enhance transfection in differentiating myocytes and enable Cre‐mediated reporter activation in injured ...

Characteristics of the First Human Milk Bank in Taiwan

open access: yesPediatrics and Neonatology, 2013
The benefits of feeding human milk to infants, even in prematurity, have been well documented. Well-organized donor milk processing has made the milk bank a good source of nutrition for premature or sick infants if their own mother's milk is not ...

Human milk oligosaccharides modulate the intestinal microbiome of healthy adults

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2023
Human milk contains over 200 distinct oligosaccharides, which are critical to shaping the developing neonatal gut microbiome. To investigate whether a complex mixture of human milk oligosaccharides (HMOs) would similarly modulate the adult gut microbiome,

Microfluidic Engineering of Microgels: A Review of Emerging Technologies, Materials, Fabrication Strategies, and Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Recent advances in microfluidic technologies for microgel fabrication are critically reviewed, highlighting the capabilities and limitations of major microfluidic platforms and discussing how platform design, material selection, and crosslinking strategies influence microgel architecture and functionality. Current challenges and future opportunities in

ORGANIZING THE WORK OF THE DONOR BREAST MILK BANK AT THE LVIV PERINATAL CENTER IS AN EXPERIENCE THAT MOTIVATES FURTHER DEVELOPMENT

open access: yesНеонатологія, хірургія та перинатальна медицина
Human milk is considered the primary source of nutrition for breastfed infants and is justifiably regarded as the “gold standard.” Errors in feeding breastfed infants negatively affect not only the child’s physical health but also their functional ...
