Eosinophilic infiltration as the initial trace of acute mixed cellular and antibody mediated rejection in a heart transplant patient with concomitant immense epitope-associated HLA-antibody production: a case report

open access: yesFrontiers in Immunology, 2023
Acute mixed cellular and antibody-mediated rejection (MR) has an estimated prevalence of 7.8%. However, knowledge of MR immune pathogenesis in cardiac graft rejection remains sparse.

Engineering peptides into antibodies—opportunities and strategies for therapeutic innovation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Peptides and antibodies occupy complementary therapeutic niches. Peptides recognize difficult targets in a compact format, while antibodies add specificity, long half‐life, and effector functions. This review examines strategies that merge both modalities—peptide grafting into loops, terminal and Fc fusions, and bioconjugation—highlighting how ...

The microbiome in human skin aging

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐related skin changes encompass the well‐known visible phenotypic alterations, together with microbiome dysbiosis and a series of molecular aging hallmarks. These hallmarks characterize not only a fully stablished aged phenotype but also the skin aging process itself.

Development of non-donor-specific HLA antibodies after kidney transplantation : frequency and clinical implications

open access: yes, 2009
Patients undergoing renal transplantation frequently have non-donor-specific HLA antibodies (NDSA). There could be NDSA (e.g. a negative crossmatch in a sensitized patient), or could be donor-specific HLA antibodies (DSA) (e.g., antibody-incompatible ...

Absence of Donor-Specific Anti-HLA Antibodies After ABO-Incompatible Heart Transplantation in Infancy: Altered Immunity or Age? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Specific B-cell tolerance toward donor blood group antigens develops in infants after ABO-incompatible heart transplantation, whereas their immune response toward protein antigens such as HLA has not been investigated.

Partial depletion of plasminogen activator inhibitor‐1 decreases subcutaneous fat cell hypertrophy and liver cholesterol in high‐fat‐fed female mice

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Obesity raises blood levels of PAI‐1, a protein linked to metabolic dysfunction‐associated steatotic liver disease in people with obesity. In female mice fed a high‐fat diet, partially lowering PAI‐1 led to smaller subcutaneous fat cells and lower liver cholesterol, without changing body weight or insulin sensitivity.

Successful lung transplantation in the presence of pre-existing donor-specific cytotoxic HLA Class II antibodies

open access: yes, 2012
Pre-existing HLA antibodies are a well-established causal factor for rejection and graft dysfunction after solid-organ transplantation. In lung transplant recipients, the significance of HLA antibodies has not been fully established.

Ligand‐dependent transcriptional heterogeneity in cell cycle gene expression delays G1/S entry

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
EGF and HRG induce distinct G1/S progression programs in ErbB2‐amplified BT474 breast cancer cells. Despite activating the potent ErbB2–ErbB3 heterodimer, HRG does not accelerate cell‐cycle entry. Instead, EGF promotes earlier restriction‐point passage via ERK–FOS signaling, whereas HRG activates the AKT–MYC axis, driving transcriptional heterogeneity ...

Pretransplant IgG subclasses of donor-specific human leukocyte antigen antibodies and development of antibody-mediated rejection

open access: yes, 2011
The subclass of IgG antibodies contributes to their capability to activate complement. It is currently unknown whether the pretransplant IgG subclass composition allows distinguishing harmful from presumably irrelevant donor-specific human leukocyte ...
