Dopamine: Differentially Private Federated Learning on Medical Data [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2021
While rich medical datasets are hosted in hospitals distributed across the world, concerns on patients' privacy is a barrier against using such data to train deep neural networks (DNNs) for medical diagnostics. We propose Dopamine, a system to train DNNs on distributed datasets, which employs federated learning (FL) with differentially-private ...

On the Origin of Tremor in Parkinson's Disease [PDF]

open access: yes(2012) PLoS ONE 7(7): e41598, 2012
The exact origin of tremor in Parkinson's disease remains unknown. We explain why the existing data converge on the basal ganglia-thalamo-cortical loop as a tremor generator and consider a conductance-based model of subthalamo-pallidal circuits embedded into a simplified representation of the basal ganglia-thalamo-cortical circuit to investigate the ...

Dopamine-modulated dynamic cell assemblies generated by the GABAergic striatal microcircuit [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
The striatum, the principal input structure of the basal ganglia, is crucial to both motor control and learning. It receives convergent input from all over the neocortex, hippocampal formation, amygdala and thalamus, and is the primary recipient of ...

Dopamine and Hypertension

open access: yesFolia Endocrinologica Japonica, 1993
Dopamine has been well recognized to be a precursor of norepinephrine, exhibiting cardiovascular effects through alpha-adrenoceptor stimulation by norepinephrine production and release in sympathetic nerve endings. It also has the specific and unique effects of natriuresis and vasodilation.

The Mechanism and Pathways of Dopamine and Dopamine Agonists in Prolactinomas [PDF]

open access: yesFrontiers in Endocrinology, 2019
Dopamine agonists such as bromocriptine and cabergoline are the predominant treatment drugs for prolactinoma by inhibiting prolactin secretion and shrinking tumor size. However, the pathways of either dopamine or its agonists that lead to the death of cells are incompletely understood and some are even conflicting conclusions.

Extracellular Matrix‐Mediated Crosslinking of Adhesive Hyaluronic Acid Patch for Treating Volumetric Muscle Injury

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
This study reports a novel strategy for preparing a biocompatible adhesive hydrogel crosslinked with a muscle tissue‐derived extracellular matrix (MEM) for in situ muscle regeneration. As a natural crosslinker, MEM not only mediates combinatorial polymer networks but also stimulates satellite cells to induce a cell‐free therapeutic solution.

Increased expression of the dopamine transporter leads to loss of dopamine neurons, oxidative stress and l-DOPA reversible motor deficits

open access: yesNeurobiology of Disease, 2015
The dopamine transporter is a key protein responsible for regulating dopamine homeostasis. Its function is to transport dopamine from the extracellular space into the presynaptic neuron. Studies have suggested that accumulation of dopamine in the cytosol

Brain Dopamine Transmission in Health and Parkinson's Disease: Modulation of Synaptic Transmission and Plasticity Through Volume Transmission and Dopamine Heteroreceptors

open access: yesFrontiers in Synaptic Neuroscience, 2018
This perspective article provides observations supporting the view that nigro-striatal dopamine neurons and meso-limbic dopamine neurons mainly communicate through short distance volume transmission in the um range with dopamine diffusing into ...

Epac2 in midbrain dopamine neurons contributes to cocaine reinforcement via enhancement of dopamine release

open access: yeseLife, 2022
Repeated exposure to drugs of abuse results in an upregulation of cAMP signaling in the mesolimbic dopamine system, a molecular adaptation thought to be critically involved in the development of drug dependence.
