Prolactinomas and Resistance to Dopamine Agonists

Hormone Research, 1992
Among 288 patients with prolactinoma (aged 12-62 years; 242 women), 27 were diagnosed as resistant to bromocriptine as their plasma prolactin (PRL) levels remained elevated despite long-term (3 months or more) treatment at high doses (> or = 15 mg daily).

Dopamine agonist action of phencyclidine

Synapse, 2005
AbstractAlthough the psychotomimetic action of phencyclidine is often used to model a hypoglutamate theory of psychosis or schizophrenia, work also exists showing that phencyclidine has a significant affinity for the dopamine D2 receptor. The present study was done to determine whether phencyclidine has a direct functional dopamine‐like action on cells.

Dopamine agonist–resistant prolactinomas

Journal of Neurosurgery, 2011
The authors' object in this paper was to review the definition, epidemiology, biology, resistance mechanisms, and treatment options for dopamine agonist–resistant prolactinomas (DARPs). Prolactinomas are relatively unique among primary brain tumors in that medical treatment alone using dopamine agonists carries a high probability of disease control or ...

Vascular Dopamine and Dopamine Receptor Agonists

1984

Partial dopamine agonists in schizophrenia

British Journal of Hospital Medicine, 2005
The emergence of partial dopamine agonists reinforces the argument for the dopamine hypothesis of schizophrenia. Aripiprazole (Abilify®) is the first of these compounds for the treatment of schizophrenia to be launched in the UK. Aripiprazole has a promising efficacy and favourable tolerability profile that suggests it has a significant role to play ...

Prolactinoma and Dopamine Agonists

2016
For several years dopaminergic agents have been used as a promising alternative to surgical treatment of prolactin-secreting adenomas. In the majority of centers, use of these drugs has led to transsphenoidal removal of adenomas to be relegated to the rare cases of tumors refractory to medical treatment.
