Erosion of granular sediments by submerged impinging jets: Particle size effects and cohesion onset
Abstract This study investigates the erosion behavior and modeling of glass particle beds under impinging jet conditions, with a focus on particle size effects and the onset of cohesion. Ultrasonic profiling is implemented to scan and measure static crater profiles.

This perspective surveys emerging quantum and classical photonic applications across operating wavelengths and timescales, highlighting persistent technological gaps in integrated light sources. We examine the unique advantages of quadratic nonlinear photonics on the thin‐film lithium niobate (TFLN) platform and discuss strategies for realizing ...

We present the first coordinated study of a 1-h mesoscale gravity wave event detected simultaneously by a Na Doppler lidar at Boulder, CO (40.1°N, 105.2°W), and a Na Doppler lidar and an airglow temperature mapper (AMTM) at Logan, UT (41.7°N, 111.8°W) in

Application of coherent lidar technique: Water vapor DIAL and data assimilation for three-dimensional wind flow reconstructions [PDF]
We recently expanded the wind sensing coherent Doppler lidar (CDL) technologies to the coherent differential absorption lidar (DIAL) and data assimilation with computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulation.

Abstract Hurricane Harvey (2017) produced 31 net‐erosional washout channels on San Jose Island, Texas, USA, where offshore‐directed flows cut through two dune ridges and the beach. Channel growth was affected by natural, pre‐existing aeolian topography, rather than prior washover channels or infrastructure. We investigate how offshore directed outwash,

Aircraft Wake Vortex Measurement with Coherent Doppler Lidar
Aircraft vortices are generated by the lift-producing surfaces of the aircraft. The variability of near-surface conditions can change the drop rate and cause the cell of the wake vortex to twist and contort unpredictably.

Hydraulic Effects of Channel Realignment and Floodplain Reconnection in a Headwater Stream
Abstract Channel realignment and floodplain reconnection are increasingly used as nature‐based solutions for flood management, yet their hydraulic effects remain poorly quantified in field settings of moderate‐gradient, small order channels. This study examines the impact of such interventions on hydraulic response in a headwater catchment, Goldrill ...

Computer simulation of coherent Doppler lidar measurement of wind velocity and retrieval of turbulent wind statistics [PDF]
We describe the algorithms for the simulation of cw and pulsed coherent Doppler wind lidar operation in a turbulent atmosphere and the methods to estimate the mean wind and the parameters of small-scale wind turbulence from lidar data.

Abstract A process‐oriented calibration framework is developed for the Simplified Higher‐Order Closure (SHOC) turbulence scheme in DOE's Simple Cloud Resolving E3SM Atmospheric Model (SCREAM). This framework leverages machine learning surrogates and observational constraints to efficiently calibrate SHOC adjustable parameters across two convective ...
