Diversity of Amphidomataceae (Dinophyceae) in the Black Sea, including description of Amphidoma pontica sp. nov.

open access: yesPhycological Research, EarlyView.
SUMMARY The dinoflagellate family Amphidomataceae includes the genera Azadinium and Amphidoma, several species of which are known producers of lipophilic toxins known as azaspiracids (AZAs). However, the diversity, abundance, and distribution of this important group of nanoplanktonic dinoflagellates in the Black Sea remain poorly understood. To address

Whole genome shotgun phylogenomics resolve the diving beetle tree of life

open access: yesSystematic Entomology, EarlyView.
A new and strongly supported phylogeny of diving beetles (Dytiscidae) is presented using the largest genomic dataset to date. Laccophilinae and Coptotominae + Lancetinae are early diverging lineages excluded from a large monophyletic clade comprising the remaining eight subfamilies. We identify seven remaining problems in the backbone of the phylogeny,

Systematics, divergence dating and historical biogeography of Ochrotrichiinae (Trichoptera: Hydroptilidae) based on morphological and molecular data

open access: yesSystematic Entomology, EarlyView.
Molecular and morphological phylogeny support Ochrotrichiinae monophyly now comprising eight genera: Angrisanoia, Caledonotrichia, Maydenoptila, Metrichia, Nothotrichia, Ochrotrichia, Ragatrichia and Rhyacopsyche. Dibusa was excluded and placed as incertae sedis within Hydroptilidae. Ochrotrichiinae diverged ~116 Ma.

Finding the Words: How Does the Aging Brain Process Language? A Focused Review of Brain Connectivity and Compensatory Pathways

open access: yesTopics in Cognitive Science, EarlyView.
Abstract As people age, there is a natural decline in cognitive functioning and brain structure. However, the relationship between brain function and cognition in older adults is neither straightforward nor uniform. Instead, it is complex, influenced by multiple factors, and can vary considerably from one person to another.
