Visual Perception of Object Motion during Self-Motion Does Not Depend on Heading Perception

open access: yesi-Perception, 2012
Recent studies have suggested that the visual system subtracts the optic flow pattern experienced during self-motion from the projected retinal motion of the environment to recover object motion, a phenomenon called “flow parsing”.

Protein pyrophosphorylation by inositol pyrophosphates — detection, function, and regulation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Protein pyrophosphorylation is an unusual signaling mechanism that was discovered two decades ago. It can be driven by inositol pyrophosphate messengers and influences various cellular processes. Herein, we summarize the research progress and challenges of this field, covering pathways found to be regulated by this posttranslational modification as ...

On the rigidity of the preparation effect

open access: yesFrontiers in Psychology
The preparation effect (PE) describes enhanced attention and faster responses of dot-probes when stimuli are expected to appear. Prior work portrayed PE as a rigid, mandatory, process-all mechanism that boosts alertness for any upcoming event, largely ...

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Addressing Key Technical Aspects of Quantum Dot Probe Preparation for Bioassays [PDF]

open access: yesParticle & Particle Systems Characterization, 2014
Fluorescent semiconductor nanoparticles, or quantum dots, have become a promising platform for the engineering of biofunctional probes for a variety of biomedical applications, ranging from multicolor imaging to single‐molecule tracking to traceable drug delivery. Advances in organometallic synthesis have enabled preparation of hydrophobic quantum dots

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

Response of Various Tomato Genotypes to Begomovirus Infection and Its Improved Diagnostic

open access: yesHayati Journal of Biosciences, 2007
Begomovirus infection was identified from tomato growing areas in West Java (Bogor), Central Java (Boyolali), and D.I. Yogyakarta (Kaliurang). Efforts to reduce the infection among others are planting resistance varieties. This research was undertaken to

MATHEMATICAL MODELING OF A DISTANCE DEPENDENCE OF A SCANNING KELVIN PROBE LATERAL RESOLUTION

open access: yesПриборы и методы измерений, 2015
A mathematical model of cylindrical shaped plane-ended scanning Kelvin probe output signal is proposed considering the case of an infinite plane sample's surface with local defects represented by dot charges.
