Double‐Difference Adjoint Tomography of the Crust and Uppermost Mantle Beneath Alaska

Journal of Geophysical Research: Solid Earth, 2023
AbstractWe perform adjoint waveform tomography to reveal the P‐wave velocity structure of the crust and uppermost mantle in Alaska by using common‐source double‐difference traveltime data. Our underlying forward modeling tool is a 3D seismic‐wave solver called SPECFEM3D_GLOBE. We select ∼13,000 high‐quality P‐wave arrivals from 147 earthquakes recorded

Adjoint Tomography of Northeast Japan Revealed by Common-Source Double-Difference Travel-Time Data

Seismological Research Letters, 2022
AbstractWe present the wave equation-based adjoint tomography of northeastern Japan using common-source double-difference travel-time data. More than 30,000 high-quality first P-wave arrivals from 117 local earthquakes recorded by 713 seismic stations are included in the inversion, generating more than 350,000 double-difference travel times of first P ...

Double‐difference tomography of microseismic data for monitoring carbon sequestration

SEG Technical Program Expanded Abstracts 2009, 2009
Summary More than 2000 microseismic events have been recorded since early 2008 using a cemented geophone string for monitoring CO2 injection at the Aneth oil field in Utah. The double-difference seismic tomography method has recently been developed for improving earthquake locations and imaging the seismic velocity structure.

A Double Difference Tomography Study of the Washington Forearc: Does Siletzia Control Crustal Seismicity?

Journal of Geophysical Research: Solid Earth, 2020
AbstractWe present new seismic tomography of the Washington forearc using a suite of manually picked regional earthquake phase arrivals. The recovery of similarly sampled P and S velocity permits the robust calculation of Poisson's ratio throughout the region.

Microseismic event location for monitoring CO2 injection using double-difference tomography

The Leading Edge, 2010
Increases in pore pressure and volume caused by CO2 injection will perturb the ambient stress field and possibly trigger brittle failure on small fractures or faults, resulting in microearthquakes. Monitoring this induced seismicity can help understand the migration of the CO2 front, and the stress and strain changes in the reservoir (Miyazawa et al ...

A Graphics Processing Unit Implementation and Optimization for Parallel Double-Difference Seismic Tomography

Bulletin of the Seismological Society of America, 2014
Abstract Double‐difference seismic tomography can estimate velocity structure and event locations with high precision, but its high‐computation cost along with large memory usage prevents the use of a personal computer to process very large datasets and requires a long‐computation time.

Double‐difference constrained reflection tomography in two‐dimensional elastic media

Geophysical Prospecting
AbstractThe inverted velocity model obtained from the reflection tomography based on the angle domain common‐image gathers has a certain fuzziness. The inverted velocity model's stratigraphic interface is always not clear enough in areas with complex stratigraphic structure. In order to improve the accuracy and resolution of the inverted velocity model,

Double-Difference Tomography: The Method and Its Application to the Hayward Fault, California

Bulletin of the Seismological Society of America, 2003
We have developed a double-difference (DD) seismic tomography method that makes use of both absolute and relative arrival times. By reducing systematic errors using the more accurate relative arrival times, the method produces an improved velocity model.
