Robust Optimal Damper Placement of Nonlinear Oil Dampers With Uncertainty Using Critical Double Impulse

open access: yesFrontiers in Built Environment, 2021
A new robust method for optimal damper placement is presented for building structures under the critical double impulse. Oil dampers are treated here as representative supplemental dampers to control the seismic response of high-rise buildings.

Closed-form critical earthquake response of elastic-plastic structures on compliant ground under near-fault ground motions

open access: yesFrontiers in Built Environment, 2016
The double impulse is introduced as a substitute of the fling-step near-fault ground motion. A closed-form solution of the elastic-plastic response of a structure on compliant (flexible) ground by the ‘critical double impulse’ is derived for the first ...

Robustness analysis of elastoplastic structure subjected to double impulse [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Sound and Vibration, 2016
Abstract The double impulse has extensively been used to evaluate the critical response of an elastoplastic structure against a pulse-type input, including near-fault earthquake ground motions. In this paper, we propose a robustness assessment method for elastoplastic single-degree-of-freedom structures subjected to the double impulse input ...

Smart Seismic Control System for High-Rise Buildings Using Large-Stroke Viscous Dampers Through Connection to Strong-Back Core Frame

open access: yesFrontiers in Built Environment, 2020
An innovative structural control system is proposed for high-rise buildings. A damping layer is provided between a stiff upper core frame suspended from the top of the main building and a stiff lower core frame connected to the building foundation.

General Dynamic Collapse Criterion for Elastic–Plastic Structures Under Double Impulse as Substitute of Near-Fault Ground Motion

open access: yesFrontiers in Built Environment, 2020
A dynamic collapse criterion for elastic–plastic structures under near-fault ground motions is derived analytically by approximately transforming near-fault ground motions into double impulse and using an energy balance law.

Impulsive Synchronization Between Double-Scroll Circuits

open access: yes, 2012
Two identical, double-scroll circuits, in their chaotic mode of operation, are unidirectionally connected via an externally triggered electronic switch. Thus, the case of impulsive synchronization is established. Their synchronization and its dependence on the switch on-off frequency and duty cycle is demonstrated.

Evidence for double injections in scatter‐free solar impulsive electron events [PDF]

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, 2006
We investigate the injection at the Sun for three scatter‐free impulsive electron events (7 August 1999, 28 June and 22 August 2000) observed from ∼0.4 to 300 keV by the WIND 3DP instrument. Taking into account the interplanetary scatter‐free propagation and instrumental effects, we find that the observed time profiles of electron fluxes at all ...

Critical double impulse input and bound of earthquake input energy to building structure

open access: yesFrontiers in Built Environment, 2015
A theory of earthquake input energy to building structures under single impulse is useful for disclosing the property of energy transfer function. This property shows that the area of the energy transfer function is constant irrespective of natural ...

Critical earthquake response of a SDOF elastic‐perfectly plastic model with viscous damping under double impulse as a substitute for near‐fault ground motion

open access: yesJapan Architectural Review, 2018
The double‐impulse input is introduced as a substitute for the fling‐step near‐fault ground motion, and a closed‐form solution for the approximate elastic‐plastic response of a structure with viscous damping under the “critical double impulse” is derived.
