Generation and characterisation of 40 GHz picosecond optical pulses generated using an EAM [PDF]
The authors describe the generation of short (< 4 ps) optical pulses at a repetition rate of 40 GHz using an InP electro-absorption modulator. The technique of frequency resolved optical gating (FROG) is subsequently used to accurately characterize the ...

Chirped pulse Raman amplification in plasma: high gain measurements [PDF]
High power short pulse lasers are usually based on chirped pulse amplification (CPA), where a frequency chirped and temporarily stretched ``seed'' pulse is amplified by a broad-bandwidth solid state medium, which is usually pumped by a monochromatic ...

Simulation of laser ablation in aluminum: the effectivity of double pulses [PDF]
Lasers are becoming a more and more important tool in cutting and shaping materials. Improving precision and effectivity is an ongoing demand in science and industry. One possibility are double pulses. Here we study laser ablation of aluminum by the two-temperature model.

Power controllable gain switched fiber laser at ~ 3 μm and ~ 2.1 μm
Based on a hybrid pumping method consisting of a 1150 nm continuous-wave pump source and a 1950 nm pulsed pump source, we demonstrate a power controllable gain-switched fiber laser in dual wavebands at ~ 3 μm and ~ 2.1 μm.
