In Situ Micromechanical Study of Bimodal γ′–γ″ Precipitate Assemblies in Ni–Cr–Al–Nb Superalloy

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A Ni–Cr–Al–Nb superalloy with a bimodal γ′–γ″ precipitate distribution is developed. Composite precipitate assemblies form through heterogeneous nucleation, effectively impeding dislocation motion. Micropillar compression reveals high strength at room and elevated temperatures, governed by precipitate shearing, with coupled faulting mechanisms ...

Non-sequential double ionization of Ar: from the single- to the many-cycle regime

open access: yesNew Journal of Physics, 2014
The transition from the near-single to the multi-cycle regime in non-sequential double ionization of argon is investigated experimentally. Argon atoms are exposed to intense laser pulses with a center wavelength around 790 nm and the momenta of electrons

Ultrafast kinetics of the antiferromagnetic-ferromagnetic phase transition in FeRh

open access: yesNature Communications, 2022
Using ultrashort laser pulses it is possible to induce ferromagnetic ordering in otherwise anti-ferromagnetic FeRh. Here, Li et al. use THz emission spectroscopy with double pump to probe the transient dynamics of this transition, showing the ...

Nonsequential double ionization of Ar in near-single-cycle laser pulses

open access: yes, 2020
Using the improved quantitative rescattering (QRS) model, we simulate the correlated two-electron momentum distributions (CMD) for nonsequential double ionization (NSDI) of Ar by near-single-cycle laser pulses with a wavelength of 750 nm at an intensity ...

Near-Field Analysis of Terahertz Pulse Generation From Photo-Excited Charge Density Gradients [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Excitation of photo-current transients at semiconductor surfaces by subpicosecond optical pulses gives rise to emission of electromagnetic pulses of terahertz (THz) frequency radiation.

Hot‐Film and Calorimetric Methods With Transient Heating for Measurement of High Biofluid Flow Rate

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Accurate measurement of biofluid flow rate is vital for clinical diagnostics. We propose a transient heating strategy using short thermal pulses and peak temperature tracking to enhance the flow sensitivity of the hot‐Film and calorimetric methods. Simulations show how optimal heating time maximizes sensitivity across flow rates.

Dimensional Analysis of Double-Track Microstructures in a Lithium Niobate Crystal Induced by Ultrashort Laser Pulses

open access: yesPhotonics, 2023
Double-track microstructures were induced in the bulk of a z-cut lithium niobate crystal by 1030 nm 240 fs ultrashort laser pulses with a repetition rate of 100 kHz at variable pulse energies exceeding the critical Kerr self-focusing power.

Control of Polarization and Polar Helicity in BiFeO3 by Epitaxial Strain and Interfacial Chemistry

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
In BiFeO3 thin films, the interplay of interfacial chemistry, electrostatics, and epitaxial strain is engineered to stabilize homohelicity in polarization textures at the domain scale. The synergistic use of a Bi2O2‐terminated Aurivillius buffer layer and a highly anisotropic compressive epitaxial strain offers new routes to control the polar‐texture ...

Generation of Terawatt-Scale Vortex Pulses Based on Optical Parametric Chirped-Pulse Amplification

open access: yesIEEE Photonics Journal, 2020
In this letter, we report the demonstration of terawatt (TW)-scale femtosecond vortex laser pulses based on noncollinear optical parametric chirped-pulse amplification (OPCPA) centered at 800 nm.
