On the Extraction of Double-Layer Capacitances for Nonideal Capacitive Behaviors

Industrial & Engineering Chemistry Research, 2012
The equation for ideal capacitive behavior of a metal/solution interface was modified in such a way that it allows direct extraction of double-layer capacitance (C dl ) values as a function of the frequency from complex plane plots exhibiting nonideal behavior.

Electric Double-Layer Capacitance of Carbon Nanocages

Journal of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology, 2009
We have carried out capacitive experiments on carbon nanocage (CNC) materials, which have highly ordered and uniform pores. The sizes of the opening pores in CNCs are approximately 5.6 nm, as measured from TEM images. CNC materials exhibit type IV nitrogen adsorption isotherms according to the IUPAC classification scheme along with hysteresis and BJH ...

Double-layer capacitance on a rough metal surface

Physical Review E, 1996
An expression for the double layer capacitance of rough metal-electrolyte, metal-semiconductor, or semiconductor-electrolyte interfaces is derived which shows the interplay between the Debye length and the lengths characterizing roughness. Different dependencies of the capacitance, as compared to the flat interface, on the concentration of charge ...

An adsorption model for double-layer capacitance

Surface Technology, 1979
Abstract We propose an adsorption model based on experimental results on the frequency, potential, concentration and temperature behaviour of the double-layer capacitance of several Hg/electrolyte contacts. The model is derived from thermodynamic and chemical relaxation principles and leads to a frequency dependence equivalent to the Debye relations ...

The temperature dependence of double-layer capacitance

Surface Technology, 1979
Abstract The capacitance dispersion of two Hg/borax contacts was measured in the temperature range 15–50 °C at zero-charge potential using a previously described bridge (100 Hz–300 kHz). Increasing the temperature shifts the dispersion to higher frequencies and raises the low frequency limit.

Capacitance of electrochemical double layer capacitors

Electrochimica Acta, 2012
Abstract The general aim of the present study was to conduct phenomenological investigation of EDLCs capacitance ‘stability’ under direct current conditions. Commercial EDLCs and laboratory test-devices were tested from the point of view of their ‘capacitance’ stability.

Double-layer capacitance for a charged surface

Ionics, 2016
Supercapacitors are a key technology for the energy storage requirements of future energy systems. A primary problem of supercapacitors is their limited energy density, but new electrode materials and electrode designs might help to overcome this limitation.

On the temperature dependence of the double-layer capacitance

Electrochimica Acta, 1972
Abstract Capacitance measurements were carried out on liquid mercury and lead in molten mixtures of alkali-metal nitrates and chlorides, respectively. On the basis of these results and of their comparison with the electrocapillary curves, the temperature dependence of the double-layer capacitance is discussed.

Curvature effects on electric-double-layer capacitance

Chinese Journal of Chemical Engineering, 2021
Abstract Understanding the microscopic structure and thermodynamic properties of electrode/electrolyte interfaces is central to the rational design of electric-double-layer capacitors (EDLCs). Whereas practical applications often entail electrodes with complicated pore structures, theoretical studies are mostly restricted to EDLCs of simple geometry ...
