Dowel action of the tensile reinforcement in RC beams without shear reinforcement: Novel experimental investigation and mechanical modelling

open access: yesEngineering Structures, 2023
Dowel action is a well-known phenomenon in shear-related problems within structural concrete. The tests previously reported in the literature to evaluate this contribution in reinforced concrete beams without shear reinforcement were conducted without any initial activation of the tensile reinforcement. This paper presents the experimental results of ...

Reintroduction of an Endangered Butterfly, the Mottled Duskywing (Erynnis martialis)

open access: yesAnimal Conservation, EarlyView.
We reintroduced Mottled Duskywing (Erynnis martialis), an endangered skipper butterfly, at different life‐stages to restored oak savanna habitat in Ontario, Canada and then performed intensive post‐release monitoring. Our results show that, at one of three sites, a population was established within two years of initiating releases and that pupae and ...

BIOMECHANICAL STUDY OF SINGLE ROOTED TEETH RESTORED WITH DOWEL CORS

open access: yesУкраїнський стоматологічний альманах, 2018
The purpose of the biomechanical study was a comparative analysis of the stress-strain state of the dowel core, dentin of the tooth root, periodontal and bone tissues of the alveolus in the restoration of the first premolars using dowel core, made of ...

Performance of doubly reinforced concrete beams with GFRP bars

open access: yesJournal of the Mechanical Behavior of Materials
The study focused on examining the behavior of six concrete beams that were reinforced with glass fiber-reinforced polymer (GFRP) bars to evaluate their performance in terms of their load-carrying capacity, deflection, and other mechanical properties ...

Field measurements and model predictions of turbulent kinetic energy in canopies of sparse vegetation under tidal flows

open access: yesLimnology and Oceanography Letters, Volume 11, Issue 2, March 2026.
Abstract The presence of vegetation in aquatic environments alters hydrodynamics and sediment resuspension. A recent paradigm has suggested that turbulent kinetic energy (TKE) serves as a better predictor of sediment transport in aquatic canopies than bed shear stress.

Question the Mark: A Review and Assessment of Bat Marking Practices

open access: yesMammal Review, Volume 56, Issue 1, March 2026.
We reviewed a decade of research on bats and conducted a broader systematic review to assess the nature of bat marking practices and the effects and efficacy of marks. Effects of marks on bats, mark details and marking procedures are rarely reported and further research on the effects of marks on bats and more thorough reporting are needed.

Material and geometric nonlinear analysis of reinforced concrete frame structures considering the influence of shear strength complementary mechanisms

open access: yesLatin American Journal of Solids and Structures
A mechanical model for the analysis of reinforced concrete frame structures based on the Finite Element Method (FEM) is proposed in this paper. The nonlinear behavior of the steel and concrete is modeled by plasticity and damage models, respectively.

Does instrumentation and irrigation configuration affect intrarenal pressure during PCNL?

open access: yesBJUI Compass, Volume 7, Issue 2, February 2026.
Abstract Objectives To measure the effects of varying configurations of nephroscope sheath, irrigation, instruments, and suction on intrarenal pressure (IRP) during percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL). Materials and Methods Kidney and ureter 3D printed models from a deidentified patient's CT scan were placed in a plaster and foam mould, simulating the ...
