Unusual vertical oscillations of a radiosonde
In summer 2023 in southern England, several unusual balloon launches were observed which descended for a few minutes before resuming ascent. This unusual vertical oscillation was repeated several times in a ‘roller‐coaster’‐like pattern. This article discusses the behaviour of the balloons.

Analysis of Wind Field Response Characteristics of Tethered Balloon Systems
Tethered balloon systems encounter various complex wind field environments during flight. To investigate the conditions under which the system can operate safely and smoothly, a longitudinal dynamic model for tethered balloon systems is established.

: Most meteorologists think of the organized tropical cloud cluster and typhoon-hurricane weather system as having a strong transverse (or ‘in-up-and-out’) circulation of low-level frictionally driven inflow, upward vertical motion in cloud areas, and ...

Rare Lightning and Convection Characteristics During Two Successive Tornadoes in Southern China
ABSTRACT Systematic investigations into lightning characteristics of tornado storms in China remain scarce. This study comprehensively analyses rare lightning behaviour and overshooting top characteristics for two successive tornadoes during a long‐lived supercell in southern China on 27 April 2024.

A relaxed eddy accumulation flask sampling system for 14C-based partitioning of fossil and non-fossil CO2 fluxes [PDF]
A relaxed eddy accumulation (REA) system was developed and tested, enabling conditional sampling of air for subsequent 14CO2 analysis. This allows a 14C-based estimation of fossil fuel CO2 concentrations in the collected air samples and, thus, an ...

Abstract Marine cold‐air outbreaks (MCAOs) strongly modulate Arctic air‐sea exchange, yet their mixed‐phase clouds remain difficult to represent in Earth system models. We simulate an MCAO case using Lagrangian large‐eddy simulations that couple double‐moment microphysics with prognostic aerosol and ice formation parameterizations. We then apply a self‐

CFD-Based Energy and Thermal Performance Evaluation of a Coconut Shell-Fired Downdraft Kiln for Sustainable Brick Production [PDF]
Enhancing energy efficiency and reducing environmental impact in energy-intensive industries are essential for sustainable energy systems. This study numerically evaluates the energy and thermal performance of a coconut shell-fired downdraft brick kiln ...

Abstract An unprecedented record‐breaking extreme hourly rainfall event (201.9 mm/hr) occurred on 20 July 2021, at the Zhengzhou Station, China. In previous studies, a meso‐γ $\gamma $‐scale convective storm is found to be the direct process causing the rainfall; also found is the impact of processes on other scales (synoptic‐ and meso‐scales), in ...

Hailstorm Events Over a Maritime Tropical Region: Environmental Influences on Microphysics
Abstract Building on a previous study showing that NetCAPE0C—formulated as CAPE calculated up to the 0° ${}^{\circ}$C isotherm, after subtracting CIN and correcting for water loading—is effective in predicting hail occurrence in maritime tropical (mT) environments, we examined the microphysics to understand why, particularly for ordinary pulse storms ...
