‘Energy towers’ – an analytical model of power generation by evaporative cooling in hot, dry air areas

open access: yesInternational Journal of Sustainable Energy
This study presents an analytical model for Energy Towers, a renewable energy technology that utilises evaporative cooling to generate power. In hot and dry regions, water is sprayed at the top of the tower, creating a downdraft as the droplets evaporate.

Clustering of Right‐Moving Tornadic Supercell Proximity Sounding Profiles Using an Explainable Framework

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Atmospheres, Volume 131, Issue 17, 16 September 2026.
Abstract This study demonstrates an explainable machine learning framework for explicitly selecting important environmental features that determine clusters of right‐moving tornadic supercells. Although previous studies have clustered and analyzed proximity sounding profiles associated with tornadic right‐moving supercells, few have identified key ...

Removal of Water Vapor Produced from Condensation Occurring Post-Sublimation of Dry Ice by a Novel Downdraft Table

open access: yes, 2022
Without downdraft, the water vapor poured over each of the four boundaries of the downdraft tabletop. With downdraft, the water vapor did not cross any boundary of the tabletop.

Resolving Convective‐Scale Cloud and Precipitation Structures in Tropical Cyclone Rainbands With Novel Raman Lidar Observations

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Atmospheres, Volume 131, Issue 17, 16 September 2026.
Abstract Low‐level clouds in the tropical cyclone (TC) rainbands modulate the radial inflow of warm, moist boundary layer air, which can impact TC intensity. Yet, precisely measuring rainband cloud boundaries with existing remote sensing techniques remains a challenge.

Probabilistic Baseline Diurnal Cycle at Indonesian Surface Stations

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Atmospheres, Volume 131, Issue 17, 16 September 2026.
Abstract Previous studies highlight strong influences of large‐scale synoptic, intraseasonal, and seasonal perturbations on the diurnal cycle of the Indo‐Pacific Maritime Continent (MC). Isolating local diurnal forcing of insolation from other effects can be difficult. To address this difficulty, we introduce two new concepts: the probabilistic diurnal

Dust and Primary Biological Aerosol Particles (PBAP) Effects on Sea Breeze Systems Over Houston

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Atmospheres, Volume 131, Issue 17, 16 September 2026.
Abstract Sea‐breeze‐induced convection plays a critical role in coastal weather but remains challenging to simulate due to complex aerosol–cloud interactions. Although mineral dust and primary biological aerosol particles (PBAPs) are known to act as cloud condensation nuclei and ice nucleating particles, their impacts on different convective cloud ...

Hydrogen-rich gas production from biomass air and oxygen/steam gasification in a downdraft gasifier

open access: yes, 2007
Biomass gasification is an important method to obtain renewable hydrogen, However, this technology still stagnates in a laboratory scale because of its high-energy consumption.

Mechanisms of Projected Changes in Thunderstorm Downburst Environments Across the United States

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters
Responses of downdraft convective available potential energy (DCAPE) to global warming were investigated using the Community Earth System Model (CESM2) under a high‐emission scenario through the year 2100.

A high‐altitude thermal infrared method for estimating moose abundance and demography in Rocky Mountain National Park, USA

open access: yesWildlife Biology, Volume 2026, Issue 5, September 2026.
Resource managers require accurate estimates of large herbivore abundance and demography to maintain ecological integrity. Common methods to count these species, including observations from low altitude helicopter flights, may conflict with other protected area management objectives and struggle to produce precise estimates for more cryptic species.
