Regulation of capillary hemodynamics by KATP channels in resting skeletal muscle
Superfusion of the rat spinotrapezius muscle with the sulfonylurea glibenclamide (GLI) was used to locally inhibit KATP channels in vivo. GLI reduced both red blood cell (RBC) flux and velocity thereby impairing perfusive microvascular O2 transport and lengthening RBC capillary transit times, respectively.

Coronary artery disease in asymptomatic type-2 diabetic women: a comparative study between exercise test, cardiopulmonary exercise test, and dipyridamole myocardial perfusion scintigraphy in the identification of ischemia [PDF]
BACKGROUND: Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of morbidity and mortality among diabetic individuals. Myocardial ischemia is frequently asymptomatic, thus leading to a late diagnosis and worse prognosis.

Abstract Optimal function of immunoisolated islets requires adequate supply of oxygen to metabolically active insulin producing beta‐cells. Using mathematical modeling, we investigated the influence of the pO2 on islet insulin secretory capacity and evaluated conditions that could lead to the development of tissue anoxia, modeled for a 300 μm islet in ...

Abiotic conditions in cephalopod (Sepia officinalis) eggs: embryonic development at low pH and high pCO2 [PDF]
Low pO(2) values have been measured in the perivitelline fluids (PVF) of marine animal eggs on several occasions, especially towards the end of development, when embryonic oxygen consumption is at its peak and the egg case acts as a massive barrier to ...

Level Crossing in Random Matrices: I. Random perturbation of a fixed matrix
We consider level crossing in a matrix family $H=H_0+\lambda V$ where $H_0$ is a fixed $N\times N$ matrix and $V$ belongs to one of the standard Gaussian random matrix ensembles.
