Film Effectiveness Downstream the Trenches with Tilted Target Wall
Film cooling is a commonly‐accepted effective way to protect the gas turbine hot sections from the high temperature products of the combustion chamber. Numerous film hole geometries have been the subject of investigation by many researchers over the past three decades with the aim of keeping the target wall under the maximum allowable temperature with ...

Immobilization: L‐ and D‐valmet ligands prepared from the condensation of o‐vanillin and L‐, respectively, D‐methionine exhibit a different catalytic behavior affording asymmetric Henry condensation, cyanosilylation reaction after complexation with copper or the Aldol reaction after the immobilization of these complexes onto GO.

Hemoglobin oxygen dissociation curves are measured using a modified, commercial 96‐well plate with an integrated unidirectional gas‐flow system specifically adapted for use in fluorescence microplate readers. Up to 92 samples of whole or hemolyzed, buffered or unbuffered blood, including appropriate controls or internal standard hemoglobin solutions ...

Our study demonstrates that adult Mytilus edulis from Gulf of Maine, one of the hot spots for global climate change, are metabolically resilient to the moderate acidification scenarios for the next 100–300 years but responsive to warming as seen in changes in metabolic rate, energy reserves, metabolite profiles, and enzyme activities.

Regulation of capillary hemodynamics by KATP channels in resting skeletal muscle
Superfusion of the rat spinotrapezius muscle with the sulfonylurea glibenclamide (GLI) was used to locally inhibit KATP channels in vivo. GLI reduced both red blood cell (RBC) flux and velocity thereby impairing perfusive microvascular O2 transport and lengthening RBC capillary transit times, respectively.

Abstract Optimal function of immunoisolated islets requires adequate supply of oxygen to metabolically active insulin producing beta‐cells. Using mathematical modeling, we investigated the influence of the pO2 on islet insulin secretory capacity and evaluated conditions that could lead to the development of tissue anoxia, modeled for a 300 μm islet in ...

Bleached and unbleached nanocelluloses were produced from the exhausted grape pomace and applied as coatings on PLA substrates for sustainable food packaging. Unbleached nanocelluloses were more hydrophobic and amorphous than bleached ones. The resulting bio‐based bleached nanocellulose‐coated PLA films showed a 68% reduction in O2 permeability ...

On the shape of the radiation survival curve in tumor spheroids: The role of oxygen heterogeneity
Abstract Background The shape of cell survival curves at the tissue level remains an open question in radiobiology. While homogeneous cell populations (so‐called single cells) typically exhibit an exponential decrease in survival with increasing dose, it is unclear whether this behavior persists in multicellular systems, where oxygen and nutrient ...

Background. Previous reports provided inconsistent data on the occurrence of postoperative delirium and emphasized its considerable impact on outcome. This study sought to evaluate the incidence and predictors of delirium, together with its relation to cerebral ischemia in a large cohort of cardiac surgery patients in a tertiary high‐volume center ...

Organ Transplantation: Current Status, Challenges, and Future Prospects
Organ transplantation success relies on precise modulation of the alloimmune response across distinct temporal phases of rejection. Hyperacute rejection results from preformed antibodies activating complement and causing thrombosis, while acute rejection involves T cell‐ and antibody‐mediated mechanisms that drive endothelial activation and ...
